The Boys season 3 trailer (Amazon Prime)

Best superhero/comic book series by quite a ways. Season 1, 3 and 4 of Walking Dead might be the only stuff I like as much. Watchmen was great but more like a long movie and like The Boys it was in the "inspired by Watchmen" category.
If you ask the question "what would real super heroes be like in the real world?" I think "The Boys" is probably even more likely than original Watchmen. I also think they did such an incredible job with the casting, I love all the characters and was only really familiar with one actor (Urban) going in.

As a comics nerd I've been pretty disappointed with most comics to series, even some where I read the comics as they came out. For instance I loved the comics of Runaways and Y: The Last Man but didn't really like the shows, I don't really like any of the Marvel series. Need to check out the animated Invincible series though because it looks good potentially. I actually think the best superhero series on Disney+ is the old X-Men cartoon from 90s Saturday mornings on Fox kids.

Invincible is a fantastic show. Amazon has done well with their super hero series

Excited for season 3, the first 2 seasons were great. Finally only a couple more weeks to wait!

I just finished this up over the weekend. Pretty good stuff.

Antony Starr deserves an Emmy for his portrayal of Homelander. He just effortlessly flows between self absorbed child and raging psychopath. FAcial expressions, mannerisms, vocal inflections all are just spot on.

The scene where he monologues to himself in the mirror was just 2-3 minutes of great acting

Was also slightly disappointed in the overall endinger, but I understand that they need some plot armor and to keep the series able to be going

I loved season 3. Thought it was the strongest one yet. I really dig how the whole thing was a commentary on fatherhood.

I didn't have a problem with the ending. Soldier Boy's speech about his own father sells it for me. He was never good enough for his dad, and hated that he craved that approval from him. And he hates himself because he knows his father is right. He did take a shortcut. Then he sees the same need for approval in his own son, and he can't help but loathe him the way he loathes himself.

I had no idea what I was missing. I'd never watched The Boys until about a week ago, and I managed to get caught up in time for this season's finale. Jesus, what a great show.

Yeah, it's one of the most entertaining shows out there, right now. If it was just the outrageous depictions of over the top violence and everything else, that would be one thing, but it's legitimately a well written and well acted show. Just a great send up of the superhero genre.

One great example, is from an article I was reading, recently, discussing how Soldier Boy holds a mirror up to Captain America, in such a clever way. In the MCU, Cap is the guy who does it the right way. He's the "local boy done good" taken to the Nth degree. Except he's not. How did he get his powers? Not through hard work. He took a dangerous, performance enhancing drug. And now he's the arbiter of right and wrong? It's pretty ludicrous if you think about it. And that's exactly why the character of Soldier Boy is such a biting critique on the Captain America story.
