Does it need to be quick? Some say the schools would move to P2, and it’s a matter of whether the other schools can win the windfall years later. Which likely would be with amortization.
Didn’t Maryland do this?
Either way, no one wins if those schools have to fight their way to P2, but at $800 million to gain a piece, 4-6 thinking they have a P2 home would fight imo. But espn, the eventual P2 schools, and the leftovers have a lot of incentive to avoid that war and settle.
The leftover schools gain from getting this thing to the settlement table if they are made-whole or slight premium to current 2016 era TV rights deal. P2 schools deal with SEC could likely help subsidize that. Even if they won the court case, they are not in P2, and likely not in any ESPN conference, during the case or after. Great to ein money, but they are still kind of ******. Settling for a premium in ACC based P3 is much better
ESPN benefit from avoiding risk all are free agents, and BIG can make better offer (especially if they get ND), plus espn does not benefit from a GOR being defeated in court.

Would espn try to do to the ACC as they did to the Big 12? Destroy that conference, move the teams they want to the SEC, everyone else goes to the AAC, especially with the AAC teams coming to the Big 12.
The same thing would happen though.
The ACC would poach out of the other conferences, not the other way around.

This weird steamrolling type of condescending tone over anything even if it's not serious, and generally only comes around when things are unstable or if ISU is not doing well.
I think we are more likely to see a P2 and a massive 3rd conference with ACC/Big12 & Pac12 schools.
Could make sense to create a conference with 24-30 teams. Televise 2-3 games on broadcast TV (aka CBS) each week and broadcast the rest on a subscription service (aka Paramount+).
Grows the subscriber base plus creates affinity for programming on the platform rest of week.
It's going to be a matter of what's marketable - would you rather play for a conference that has a core of:
Boston College, Syracuse, Wake Forest, Georgia Tech
Iowa State, Kansas St, TCU, Baylor
Washington St, Oregon St, Stanford, Cal
(namely leaving out schools like Pitt, VA Tech, NCST, Louisville, KU, OSU, 4 corners, UO, and UW for obvious reason).
I think this is the thing that ESPN is missing - the core of their new ACC as well as the Pac 12 is completely trash. Stanford and Cal isn't nearly as marketable as they want everyone to believe, Stanford being interesting only if they can tie them to Notre Dame. Meanwhile, that core for the Big 12 is solid, no matter how much ESPN wants to play it off as trash. I think FOX sees that, which is why I think they'll try to push as much of the Pac 12 to the Big 12 as possible.
So CDub is driving the whole re-alignment to jack CF ad revenue! I knew there was a nefarious plan afoot!

The amazing thing to me is that after the SEC and to a lesser extent Big 10 and Pac 12 poaching about 75 to 80 percent of the so called value of the Big 12 that the Big 12s estimated media package is still within 60 percent of the SEC. That should tell us several things. 1. The SEC and Big 10 have a lot of dead weight, a lot more than the Big 12. 2.Big 12s remaining 8 have had a tremendous internal growth in value combined the last 5 or 10 years; 3. The main growth for SEC and BIG 10 is external (poaching) and that period could be drawing to a close, depending on what happens to ND and the ACC teams. 4. If you assume that the Big 12s internal growth rate of value is 3 to 4 percent annually higher than the SEC, in 7 to 10 years, the Big 12s perceived media value is probably 80 to 85 percent of the SEC. Granted that is a BIG IF, but it is reasonable to conclude that the R8 is heading in that direction. The key to keeping the internal growth going is the new teams coming in and if one of the R8 can make it to the playoffs while oUT are still here.

2-3 PAC in the SEC isn't too different than 2-3 in BIG. And if it were a 4 team independent pod aligned with SEC-ACC super conference, it is no real change for ND, other than USC is now BIG.
Is there a functional difference with UW, Stanford, Oregon, Cal, and ND all being independents in football, but with ESPN? Or that Pac4 being some pseudo conference in football? Add Utah if needed. The total costs won't be more than an entire conference, and if it got you ND, worth it. This isn't the era of GT, or even the 90's in which you needed a conference for inventory and rights negations imo. ESPN League has more than enough. Give them and ND an invite to the SEC football tournament

You think ND would fight as hard as they have to remain independent just to join a 4-program "pod" aligned with the SEC/ACC? Seems to fly in the face of the whole independent thing.
Seems to me like this remains to be seen. People throw out a lot of numbers with little to no basis in reality. The negotiations over these rights are not public. And the "industry sources" have varied dramatically in their takes on how much each conference's rights are worth. I think the more bullish takes for the Big 12 have been overrepresented on this board.
There are some takes that the B1G will approach $100MM and the SEC will be not too far behind, possibly in the 80s. Pair that with takes from last summer about the new Big 12 struggling to get to $25MM. I have no idea what will end up being the case but I would not be confident in saying that the Big 12 will get to 60% of the SEC number. If the Big 12 ends up in the 30s, that would feel like a win considering the potential dire financial straits that the Angry 8 could have been left in.

As someone suggested, we are talking about alliances, not conferences. When you only see someone 1 in 10 years it doesn't mean much in rivalries other than destroying them.
