Now that it looks like the Big 12 will expand to 16 teams with Arizona, Arizona State, Utah and Colorado joining, I have been thinking about the schedule. I think that it should be a 16-team league and the two top teams play in the Big 12 Championship, but for scheduling purposes ONLY, there would be 4 pods. Here is how I think the pods would go:

Arizona/Utah pod
Arizona
Arizona State
Utah
BYU

Texas pod
Houston
Texas Tech
Baylor
TCU

Old Big 8 Contiguous States Pod
Colorado
Kansas
Kansas State
Oklahoma State

Outlier/Non-contiguous Stats Pod
Iowa State
Central Florida
Cincinnati
West Virginia

I know that fans looking at it from our point of view are saying we should be with KU and KSU, but I can't find a way to do it without breaking up the Texas schools. In addition, the conference is not going to do it from an Iowa State perspective. In addition, we would be in the same group as Cincinnati which is an area that Campbell has been recruiting and in Florida.

For scheduling, you would play the teams in your pod every year and rotate the other 6 every two years. For the other 6, I would group teams like this:

Arizona/Arizona State
Utah/BYU
Houston/Texas Tech
Baylor/TCU
Colorado/Oklahoma State
Kansas/Kansas State
Iowa State/Central Florida
West Virginia/Cincinnati

You would play one team from each group not in your pod at home and away over a 2-year period and then switch for the next two years. This would guarantee that everyone plays in Texas every year and pretty much in every region every other year.

Your proposal looks good except for ISU. For ISU, playing the eastern time zone with games in Ohio and Florida might be beneficial for recruiting. But I would prefer ISU to be in the Old Big Eight group with KU, KSU and OSU. Since, CU previously left the Big 12, make CU travel to the eastern time zone. Plus CU is close to DIA (major airport with lots of direct flights) so the eastern schools would be able to fly in non-stop.

Houston can play in the east with the other AAC schools. We’re a ****ing charter member and doing them a favor. No more bullying from any Texas schools.

You're probably right but I do want to get my **** pods in. If we went divisions I like more of a north/south split.

West Virginia, Cincinnati, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State Colorado, BYU, Utah. In the north.
Each division would have 4 holdovers, 2 from the 1st group and 2 from the PAC.

This. There absolutely no reason for us being in this new position to boned in scheduling.

That might happen. My only issue with divisions is that we won't see Texas schools very often. If we only stay with a 9 game schedule, we can only play 2 of the other 8. Would only play in Texas on average every other year. The pod scheduling allow us to play in Texas every year.

Divisions suck.
Pods, it will be with top 2 teams overall in the CCG.
ISU with former Big 8 schools.

I would pretty much hate a pod with ISU, WVU, Cincy and UCF. Closest school being 9 hours from Ames driving. Plus, not a fan of pods with only 3 core rivals.

With 16 teams, I go with two groups of 8. Play the other 7 teams in your group and 2 teams from the other group each season. That way your school plays every team in the other group every 4 years.

I'd go with:

GROUP A
TT
BU
TCU
HOU
OSU
CIN
WVU
UCF

Group B
ISU
KU
ISU
CU
BYU
UU
UA
ASU

In the case of ISU, we would play 1 Texas & 1 Non-Texas school from Group A each season.

Your group B has ISU twice. I assume that one should be K-State.

I don’t see any particular reason Houston is anywhere but the Eastern pod. That is the AAC pod. They would still get to play Texas schools. No need to split up ISU from KU and KSU to give privilege to a new member
