I miss the Big 8.

In a perfect world for me, college sports conferences would be geographically compact, contain no more than 10-12 schools, and every conference champ would have a chance at a national title. Of course, I am not in charge, and there currently is no real governing body other than ESPN.....

At the very least they should do Football only conferences, with regional and logical conferences for everything else.

I feel like, once it's a plane trip, 500 or 1000 miles really doesn't make that much difference.

Conferences are being set up so fans have need to see the games on media. Must be media pulling the strings.

There is also such thing as cultural fit.

For instance, WVU fits better with the majority of the Big 12 than it does with the ACC.

Ooh now do Ames to B1G west schools.....

Its where we should have always been
I will give you a hint. All same or closer than Kansas...except Purdue is just outside that range.

I would imagine some of the non-revenue sports have to be sweating a bit as travel expenses increase.

I saw that USC and UCLA said the B1G offered "creative solutions" to this. I think the Big 12, if it adds some Pac-12 schools, is likely to do the same.

Maybe something like: in a given non-revenue sport, UCF plays at Kansas the same day that Utah plays at K-State. Then in a day or two, UCF and Utah play each other on one of the KU/KSU campuses. You avoid one of those long trips.

Maybe this will lead to schools dropping more of those sports. Never understood why scholarships are given out for non revenue sports. Want to play women’s soccer in college, fine pay your expenses yourself.

Never heard of Title IX I suppose.

I envision west coast trips to take place over two weekends back to back and teams will stay over.
