Stanford can not move to the B1G. Iowa fans do not like their band.
There's a lot of dumbing in this thread and there really shouldn't be because of today's suprise and how much we are all speculating.
There isn't a lot of rights or wrongs in this thread other than I think we all understand the B1G and SEC will be 1 and 2 or vice versa, and the B12 has a shot at being third.
IMO, this is a good day for ISU stability wise but not for the overall "enjoyment of the game."
Point still stands though, it is pretty much negligenice to not allow them to pursue greater opportunity revenue when there are other viable options still out there, just for the sake of keeping a school together. They will pass this through in a breeze.
Yeah, the sports talking heads just glance over the GOR part. There's a reason they haven't been challenged in any of this realignment craziness.
But did ND actually sign any GOR or is it a looser agreement that the ACC gets first choice if they join as a full member?
The argument for not going after all 4 immediately is that they don't want to implode the PAC for fear of lawsuits (remember Baylor's statements during realignment). By taking these two, you get the ball rolling and might be able to get the conference to dissolve on its own, freeing up UW and Oregon.
I think as part of ND joining the ACC for 2020, they signed an agreement that they would have to join the ACC up to like '29 or '30 if they were to join any conference.
But they really won't be losing as long as they end up around 8 wins their fan base will be good with it. If they start finishing up around .500 yr after yr their fan base will get restless.
100%. The pac 12 is a sinking ship even if UCLA stays. Their regents can choose to let one of them get on a life raft (and who knows, maybe there's a possibility for another in the big 12?) or force them both to drown.

Maybe keep the Pac 10 alive for all sports other than football and basketball. I could actually see this happening nationwide. Why I think unequal revenue, teams getting booted, or the big teams making their own conference or negotiating their own rights will happen. If these teams were concerned about any other team, they would form a collective.
I believe as a concession for getting access to the ACC bowl lineup and a home for non-revenue sports, Notre Dame agreed that the ACC would be the only choice for membership should they choose to join a conference until the end of the ESPN GoR.
But I remember thinking at the time, "What's holding them to that if the **** hits the fan?" that the Big 12 was going through then.
OR…how about this…you merge the Big 12 and PAC and cement your position without more turbulence from defections (if the money is there). USC and UCLA are gone now, what’s the next best thing? It should make all the leftover PAC teams happy, unless they all want out.
Just getting caught up on all this. One thing that I really think people are missing is the geographic diversity is actually by design. I actually think the Big Ten will end up grabbing at least two more West Coast teams, because they're actually using the geographic diversity to strengthen their TV offers.
Multiple teams on the West coast allows the Big Ten to put together packages that will allow networks to show football from 11:00 AM to 12:30 AM on Saturdays. With the West coast teams, they're essentially entering an entirely new game window that they can sell. If the Big Ten gets creative, they can also sell double-header TV packages on Thursday and Friday nights. They would simply start a game on the East coast at 7:00 local time and follow it with a game that starts at 7:00 local time on the West coast. If the first game overruns, it really doesn't matter, because Thursday and Friday night are pretty lean, so ESPN/Fox/Amazon can simply put the game on another network/feed.
It may not be the best for fans of those teams, but could mean big, big money on their next TV deal.

I don't think it's going to be as wildly out of hand as people think it will be. The SEC and Big 10 will be the top 2 conferences but they already have been that and teams were still competing with them a bit from the other 3. I feel like a new commish for the NCAA might actually do something and get some NIL stuff in check as well. IDK, I think it'll be a bit more cut and dry as to who stands where but I remember this being a concern last time and it didn't really happen that way
This doesn't make sense to me. Washington and Oregon are the next 2 big names off the table. If the conference collapses it will be because those 2 found new homes, not because Arizona and Arizona State left.
Oh I guarantee every PAC12 school contacted the B1G today begging to get in, and I am sure several Big 12 schools did too. I wouldnt doubt if a couple ACC schools called saying they want in, in 2036, to leave the light on for them.
