The Fran fade

GaTech was HORRIFIC last year. Torvick has them barely inside the top 100 this year.. That'd be a Q3 game. Right up Fran's alley
Yeah, the already have Duke on the schedule. Almost makes you wonder if their big 10/acc foe GT was made known to Fran ahead of time, so he contacted Duke in an attempt to beef up their non con.

Still trying to wrap my mind around this quad cities kid they just picked up. I've seen some video of him, and 6'0" feels generous. I feel like this is the equivalent of Iowa State taking Bowen Born a few years back, and the staff would've been crucified for doing so.

I feel like this is a big, big reach for Fran. JBo worked out. But those type of guys do not work out often. It’s very very rare. This seems like a waste of a scholarship.

Personally, I thought he should be suspended and ordered into completing rehab before returning to his position as coach. I think I was in the minority, though.
I was in this camp as well. Maybe we didn't know all the facts as it seemed to me we were very quick to boot him.

The timing from a PR standpoint was pretty bad. When was that, April/May?

It was easy for it to be magnified.

Considering he had issues later, it's a wonder how long he would have lasted had he been able to stay.

There WAS a lot going on there - most of it attributable to his drinking. The other factor was the optics of the swift canning vs "get some help with your alcoholism and we'll talk". No one wanted the job after the ham-fisted way that BVDV handled it, and we ended up with Morgan.
The President called the shots on that. B can be criticized for letting it get to that point as everyone knew what was going on. Larry just ignored everyone.

Oh no... you named BB this thread is going to explode. I am still surprised he's not a Hawk though there is still time to transfer

Spot on though. Bossi take was a eventual contributor though he's best position could be shooting guard. I the comp on the Hawk board I saw most offen was a smaller Gessell.... not ideal.

We have to remember we are looking at this through Cyclone scouting eyes, The level we expect out of our PG is a whole different level than than EIU;s under Fran.

We expect all conference and future NBA, Hoks settle for not sucking too badly., everyone that is except Gary Dolphin, who got suspended wondering why they can't ever get a decent PG on an open mic a couple years ago.

You must be too young to remember the whole Larry Eustachy saga. Students and fans showing support to Larry by hanging out on his front yard. Wanting him to stay as coach even though he's been partying with students, drinking on the sidelines, and belittling some players.

I was out of school by then but I'll admit that I was in the give him a 2nd chance camp. As time went by and more came out I believe the right choice was made.
