X-Pod: Jaylin Noel

Can't get it to play.

I'm hoping his skills are utilized right out of the gates this season.

Returner or fair catcher? Let's see if he's given that freedom before November.

I don't think ISU hired a former NFL Special Teams guy as an analyst if they don't want to be more aggressive and consistent on special teams.

I also feel like we have enough young athletes on the roster that we should be better on punt returns and coverage teams. Especially with the 4 game red-shirt exemption. No reason to not get young RB's, WR's, LB's and DB's on the field.

Noel clearly had freedom to return as he wished last season. The "fair catcher" comments always annoy me. It's difficult to return punts and kicks these days, but fans who don't watch any other games but ISU think we should be returning everything. Punters are more skilled than ever, and hardly any kicks get returned with the new rules.

Noel's the most dangerous weapon we've had back there since Deandre Jackson maybe? You could tell he was close to breaking a couple last year.

The official stats show that Noel only fair caught like 2 punts out of 15 or so returns. This was a legitimate gripe a couple years ago when we had to send Lazard out there, but last year we returned like 90%+ of our opponents punts.

Edit: I double checked, and he didn't make any fair catches last season per ESPN.

As for the pod, I fast forward through the motivational quote segments until they start talking football. Overall, the first two episodes have been pretty good for just letting a couple college football players start talking. X is charismatic, and you can tell he has a ton of respect in the locker room. X/AJ/JN are all easy to cheer for.

My comment was more in the direction of how some aspects the last few years have appeared to be slow rolled out or in 'play it safe' mode early even if the talent available should be beyond that phase.

Noel obviously is a difference maker and the hope is he continues to do that out of the gates this next season, early and often.

Pretty sure Ryen was the only player this staff has had ever had that made the top 50 in the country for punts returned. Im not complaining but it's not a coincidence that we aren't returning punts. It may not be a flat out command to fair catch but something about how our returners are coached is making us return fewer punts than most teams every season.

Whatever happened with these? X get too busy?
I'll piggy back on this, he was a great interviewer what with the rapport he has with his teammates. Hope we get more, but understand if we don't. College is a busy time for most regular students, let along ones who have to balance a D1 sport on top of it.

I'd also like to know. X did a really good job with these. I assume the season just picked up but man these are good
