Avatar 2 trailer

I work on film related merch and some of the delays have been insane. I think I started looking at stuff for The Batman in 2018 or early 2019. This one is even different level. A few films were just completely done in late 2019 and studio had the ability to sit on them for 3 years.

Has this been done that long? We recently revisited it because we went to Disney in February, so I watched it with my kids. Honestly I think my 5 year old liked it more than anybody. I don't think I could accurately describe to my kids now what the experience of watching Avatar in the theater was with the 3D, but man I think the cultural relevance of this is basically over.

Can I ask why this "franchise" has had such unprecedented delays?

This one I think was more a case of "it's almost done and now we know we have years we don't mind delaying things". I wasn't working on Avatar as much as other studios.

The Batman was back and forth between Europe and US and really a production issue from shutdowns/international travel. It was mostly done before covid but I think it probably actually was really tough to get it finished. Crazy as he is I think the Tom Cruise rant clip had a point, like doing tiniest things to get shut down could have been massively irresponsible.

Some animated films were purely just wanting to hold onto them until cinemas were strong. Animated filmmaking didn't slow down at all but live action did a ton in some cases for valid reasons. I'm really curious if animation ever goes back to fully in-office, they work crazy hours and at least hybrid probably makes more sense.

Might go watch in theaters because of the visuals but honestly didn't even know they were working on a sequel. From the trailer I'm not sure I quite understand the plot. The first one was fine but certainly not anything groundbreaking from a storytelling standpoint.

Isn't there supposed to be many of these? At this pace we will all be long dead before they're all released.

Exact same experience in March with our family. My daughter was pretty into it there, the ride where you rode one of the dragon things was cool, so we watched it again when we got back. I still don't think it's a good movie, I lol'd at the first mention of unobtainium, but I think they made a pretty cool world. Maybe this time they'll figure out how to use it better.

I think they filmed them all at the same time so now it is a matter of post production and then releasing them year by year

2 and 3 were filmed at the same time. Supposedly part of 4 is already filmed, 5 is not yet started. Basically get ready for one of these every other December for the next 8 years.

No movie ever fell so hard, so fast.

Still the highest-grossing film of all-time even after Endgame had ten years of inflation to help it out.

Amazing how most of these are at best "meh" to outright bad movies.

I never thought I would say something like this, but the best of them by far is Titanic.
