Oklahoma and Big 12 wrestling future

I know it took a lot of time to allow Missouri back but now that they have I'm guessing Oklahoma will be allowed to stay.
Sadly I agree.
Missouri leaving did little to hurt the conference.
Oklahoma (and Texas) leaving will cause us considerable financial harm.
I would say do not let them remain in the conference. I did not want Missouri to be let back.
But, I carry a grudge.

I was just curious, the Oklahome thing seems different. When you get divorced you separate everythiing. Otherwise why wouldn't OK and TX join SEC for football only.

It would have been asking the Big 12 a lot to allow OU and UT to let their football teams leave to play in the SEC, but allow their other sports teams to stay. No way the Big 12 takes that offer, plus the SEC has very high level teams in both Men's and Woman's BB, baseball and softball plus their Olympic sports.

I would think it would all come down to how much feeling are hurt and the payout when the two leave. If its a nasty divorce, the league will tell OU to go pound sand over wrestling, if each side plays nice, then maybe the league allows OU OU to compete in wrestling. Just no SEC labels on the uni's.

I would think as far as wrestling is concerned, keeping OU (if they want to stay) is good for the league.

It’s a shame Olympic sports have to suffer in order to feed the football beast. Every time the lineup changes, the female athletes must be rolling their eyes:

“Wow- another long plane trip. Yay.”

They will most definitely want to stay. Their recruiting is oddly not bad considering the fact that this question hasn’t been answered yet.

While I understand all this stuff has little to do with the Olympic sports and, in fact, can negatively affect them (i.e., wrestling), I'm not exactly in a mindset of doing OU or UT any favors. They made the bed, they can sleep in it. It's not like that bed isn't made from hundreds of millions of dollars anyway, so I'm not going to feel pity if OU's new wrestling rival is Miami of Ohio.

wrestling is different than most other sports. You can schedule stronger teams for a lot of weekends, travel to bigger tournaments etc. Missouri didn’t struggle outside a power conference either.

With the move to the SEC will Big12 keep Oklahoma wrestling or make them move somewhere else?
OU EABOD.

Regarding The potential of OU wrestling being a big xii conference member; only if they acknowledge they enjoy EABOD IMO.

I think the Big 12 keeps Oklahoma in the conference. We need to keep the strength of our conference up.

I think they have to much history to drop wrestling

I agree , but have definitely seen speculation that they will drop it.

I feel bad for the OU wrestling program (and their other sports besides FB). They didn't ask to move to the SEC, and they likely won't see much benefit from it. If football ever breaks away from the NCAA like is rumored, I'd love to see the other sports go back to more regional matchups and conferences.

While I want to kick them to the curb I think whatever happens needs to be whatever is best for the sport overall - even if I don't like it.
OU's AD won't give a rats ass if they have to go to the MAC for wrestling as long as they can collect the SEC paycheck. It is better for the sport of wrestling, and for Iowa State if Oklahoma wrestling remains in the Big 12 for wrestling. They are a good program and the stronger our conference is, the more allocation spots we get for NCAAs
