AJ Green Leaves the Portal - Staying in Draft

Maybe you don’t have a great relationship with them. He’s got as good a path to the pros at Iowa State as he does at Duke. That’s not even arguable.
This is an incredible take right here. Duke has 22 guys on active rosters right now, about 4 times as many as ISU and outside of Kentucky has the best chance of sending a guy into the NBA. Also the kid's best offers out of HS were Wisconsin and Virginia. Not like he even had an offer from an elite program.

I'm pretty sure CyLite is trolling on this, but there is an old-school mindset from when you only had kids so they could help you on the farm. You give them all they need to live in their developmental years and in exchange they give up any personal dreams they have to work for you and eventually take over. Of course, history is littered with examples of how this just bred resentment and ruined lives.
This couldn’t be any dumber.

I know I didn’t strong arm my kids with their college choice. I would help pay if they went to ISU or they could go anywhere else and pay the full costs. My kids were brilliant and chose ISU.

He was a 4 star out of high school. And I didn’t limit it to Duke.
Yeah he was a 4 star ranked in the 80's. His best offers were from Wisconsin (who most of this board thinks is trash) and Virginia who was in the NIT this year.

Ok try to look at it objectively. Tyrese played very well at the end of the year, but let’s not pretend he was great the whole season. He was serviceable for 2/3 of the year with a few flashes and the last 1/3 he was good. He was great for one game. Not having Brockington is a much bigger deal than losing Tyrese.

This is as objective as it gets. TH was/is a stud point guard. Steve Prohm knew that......and so did TJ or he wouldn't have wasted time making sure he kept his ISU LOI because he had no problem letting Bolton or anyone else take a walk.

And without him.....they don't do as well as they did. This isn't about an either/or. It was a team effort and he was the point guard on that team. Doesn't matter who is or isn't as big of loss..........IF.......you are being objective. You don't see people bad mouthing Brockington for not coming back. He could have.

And if losing Brockington is that much of a bigger deal.......then people should be bad mouthing him. But they aren't.......just Tyrese.

If it's for money like most are saying......does it matter anymore how they get it? If everyone says about Brockington....."good for you, go get paid", then why not Tyrese? Like I said.....he was just as big of cog as anyone in this 22 win season.

This is seriously like a **** measuring contest full of exaggerations and put downs.

The fact is that both TH and AJ are good. One is a big loss because of what he could become, but also to an extent how he played at times as a freshman. The other would be a great add because of what he’s done at a consistent level and would bring in scoring, something very much needed. You really can’t compare the situations because we don’t have a chance at one (TH) and the other would be limited to the next year.

Yes, you could make a hypothetical argument, that for a given year, one would be more preferable to the other; but arguing like it’s some obvious fact which one that would be is a never-ending cycle because what they bring is fairly different.

TH had a good year for a true freshman. That doesn’t mean he had a great year in comparison to upperclassmen offensively or with ball handling, but that isn’t all one is losing by not having him the next 2-3 years. Likewise, AJ arguably brings a bit more consistent scoring ability for the next year, with a little less defensive prowess.

Both TH and AJ can be really good players and help a team significantly, otherwise Duke wouldn’t be courting one and Kansas the other. We would be better with either than without both, that is about the only fact in this thread.

In fairness he would have been a freshman on their national title team.

Hard to read anything on his offers because so many places didn't really recruit him because they knew he was going to UNI.

Virginia, Wisconsin, Minnesota and Clemson were the only ones that even bothered to invite him for a visit and Tony Bennett is the only one that did an in home.

Very valid points

This is an awful take. My kid would be free to do what's best for him.

Kyle and Michelle are going to be just fine. If the best path for AJ to accomplish what he wants to accomplish is Duke, so be it. He already got the experience of playing for his dad for two years plus the injury year.
Didn’t Michelle’s chiropractic business make more money than Kyle pre Iowa State pay bump?

Expectations. No one expected Brockington to stay more than 1 year. He was always either going to not fit in and leave or play well and try to cash in at the pro level. But people expected a player who played a ton, fit the system, was considered in all aspects a building block to the future of the program, to not leave for another college for no reason, to my knowledge, other than money. That’s why people aren’t thrilled, and I’m not sure how you don’t understand that.

ISU has been used as a stepping stone for coaches for years, the fact that players are using it now as a stepping stone is annoying and quite frankly super disrespectful to the programs. I know he doesn’t care but about Joe Schmo, but Tyrese gets no respect from me for doing that.

I think the deeper question that no one has answered, and I don’t know either, is why did he leave Ames immediately after the sweet 16 game?

I understand online school and wanting to be around family. But it does not make any sense that he just completely took off

Wasn’t that a red flag for the staff?
