2022 Recruiting/Transfer Class

Conspiracy theory time. Any chance TJ and staff are slow-playing filling that final scholarship spot in the hopes that Biliew commits and reclassifies to 2022?
I’m guessing seniors like Basile, Bates, and Osun are better next year than Biliew.

But if we miss on transfers that can start, a 5-star like Biliew would be a fun contingency.

Maybe. But as a new coach, trying to get a foothold in recruiting, you absolutely have to take Biliew over the others, if given the option. The recognition and publicity of signing a 5 star top 10 recruit would be worth it.

Disagree. This is a relic of pre portal transfer era in which high school kids were primarily the only way to get talent. And the only reason you want good recruiting is to have wins/success.

It would depend on the drop off. In this hypothetical, the 5 star is not a starter level like the others, and hence plays a limited bench role in comparison. That can quickly turn into a negative on the recruiting trail. KU types can overcome that. Certainly not a tangible impact as much as the impact on wins from adding a starter

I'm really split on the reclassification thing for Bilew. On one hand, if he doesn't reclassify, that is another year where ISU has to compete with some major blue bloods. I don't see that ending well. But if he did still come after one year, he'd be coming into a great ecosystem with King, Lipsey, and DWS having a year of experience.

On the other hand, if he does reclassify I'm skeptical about his ability to find instant success at ISU. Look just last year at what happened w/ Bates and Memphis. Very similar situation with these guys having "camps" (albeit Bates was different since his dad was the lead) and I think they will have high expectations coming in. What happens if he struggles out of the gate? Would a reduced role be acceptable? I doubt it.

Nonetheless, I'm not complaining either way. If Bilew ends up on ISU's roster at any point, that is a massive W.
I'm under the impression that TJ is pretty open, honest and clear in talking about his program with players (that they are going to have to work hard and earn their playing time). If this young man was paying attention to our program this last year, that idea would have been reinforced. That kind of talent is going to find a way into our lineup in 9 out of 10 cases.

Who is Bilew? I don't see that we have any future commits, yet people are talking as if he is.
