2022 Recruiting/Transfer Class

No reb per 100, and reb%. Gabe didn't rebound, so pretty easy upgrade there, and Hunter was 6'0 pg who was never going to be asked to hit the boards. Expand more, you have Ward who gives us much better rebounding than Conditt.

Plus hopefully with another post transfer, I'm not worried about replacing a single stud rebounder in Brockington.
stud positional rebounders are difference makers.

You say Hunter wasn’t going to be asked, but he was already similar to Holmes and AJG. Gabe was the bottom of the group, but closer to the others than IB was. There’s a non-zero chance Gabe and Hunter get more rebounds last year if not with IB (and not in B12)

It seems optimistic to think the backcourt is as good in rebounding or defense. Or at all, but not playing Gabe helps on that end

Defense as a whole is better. AJG isn't as good as Isiah, Williams and Holmes aren't as good as Hunter. We still have Gabe.

Hunter was only 6ft. With Williams and Holmes both being 6'4+ that allows us to be able to switch everything, and not be in as bad of a miss match. So it might be a minor down grade on the wings. But Holmes is a grown man, and Williams is a legit defender.

Our Post D will be far and away better then last year though. Ward is better then George and Jones. Not only at protecting the rim, but at being able to guard on the perimeter if he's switched onto a guard.

I also think AJG being a proven scorer (even in the Missouri Valley) is an upgrade over IZB. Even if it's not a major upgrade, he's averaged roughly 18+ for 3 years now. He was also a former top 100 recruit, so he'll be able to score. We just need Holmes to find that mid 30%+ from range again.

The staff is really high on Watson and Eli King.

(assuming AJG is here) We are 100% a better team athletically. I believe our Floor and ceiling are higher then last year's team as well.
A lot better depth on this team being put together!

I'd rather add/pursue Council than another 5 post player who doesn't bring offense to the table
Williams/ Gabe/Holmes, AJG, Council, King/Kunc, Ward. Plenty of size for me. I'd prefer to get a 6'10" starter level big but I'd take Council over another backup big

Not saying you're doing this, but I think people tend to think of offense too frequently as "needs to be able to do something with the ball in their hand". Sometimes, it's a plus to just have an efficient offensive player who doesn't need to possess the ball that often. Look at how consistently efficient Osunniyi was over 4 years at St. Bonaventure by mostly just finishing near the rim and offensive rebounding. Having a roll man who can change the gravity of the defense is important; you need those players too.

He's not going to Arkansas - they are already full. I don't get how they are still in on all of these transfers
A coworker of mine is from Arkansas, and is a huge Hog fan. He told me today on there forum boards one of there main reporters said that they are actively trying to add another player through the portal. Even though they currently have no spots if Jaylin Williams comes back, they're still trying to add to the roster.

I think that poster wasn't referring to Osun. He was referring to reaching on a post player vs Council. Obviously a big guy like Osun would be the preferred route

So your comfortable with Jones, Ward, and Jaz as the bug rotation till King is ready?
Hmmm....good question. Just think everyone is more worried about it just being a guy who can only get open dunks. I suppose I'll get trashed for asking this, but since we have to wait on Green for NBA decision, is there any way he could be asked to be a walk-on but with an NIL deal? I mean, McDermott did it for his dad. Then we don't have to choose between a big or another wing. Having said that, I'm not sure Council has us on his list as a true contender.

Wouldn't surprise me if a school oversigns and then just pays players to walk on rather than be on scholarship.

No. There hasn't been a school do that specifically yet, and Iowa St sure as hell won't be the first. They're not giving any NIL.
The McDermott thing is so over played. It was years ago, with completely different circumstances.

Osunniyi would be a GREAT addition if we adopt a pick'n'roll offense. If we run the same offense again this year. No thank you to a 5 who isn't a threat 18-22 feet from the hoop

If we get AJG we really don't need another scorer for next season.

Here's my logic to this.

If our 1-3 can get us 40+ points per night, which shouldn't be hard to do with who we have currently, and the addition of Green. That means that we just need another 20-40 a night from our 4-5 and our bench players.

AS LONG AS our Defense stays elite, which I see no reason why it wouldn't.

We went to a Sweet 16 with Conditt and Jones at the 5..

Ward/Jones is as good or better. We played some of our best ball with Jaz at the 5.
We played a lot of 4 guard offense with Hunter and Grill with Kunc at the 5. I imagine we’d do it even more with Williams and Council at 6’5” and 6’6”.
