2022 Recruiting/Transfer Class

My personal opinion is that TJ won’t panic and they will get this sorted out. We have Williams and Lipsey so the point guard spot isn’t that bare.

Just need to sit and be patient. This past team was a collective unit, we will be ok
Actually we’re more athletic than last season!

My weekly research on our transfer targets

Jaelin Llewellyn is back out there, no idea if we're looking at him again.

Tray Maddox Jr to Western Michigan

Ta'Lon Cooper to Minnesota

Bryce Hopkins to Providence seems likely but not official

For those a bit worried, we aren't just getting run on these guys. I can't remember what's premium info and what isn't but we're working hard on some of these guys listed

Plas Visit went good yesterday. I'm hearing he's leaning Wisconsin, but we still have a chance.

The Staff really wants Basile, and that has been our guy since day 1. IMO I would rather have Basile over Plas. Better rebounder, but both are suspect on defensive side.

Might have a visit with Manny Bates in the future as well. Which would solidify our Front Court D with him and Ward. Both shot blockers, and huge upgrades from last year as far as athleticism goes!

In my opinion, Ward, Williams, Green, Basile and Bates (and maybe one more G) would be a solid transfer class to work with.

I would also have Basile over Plas

I had a feeling Manny Bates would be interested in ISU, seems like he would be a great fit.

Based on the numbers I've been in the Basile over Vander Plan camp as well, but its interesting that the national experts rate Vander Plas much higher - mainly based on competition level differences - but it seems to me that way overvalues the MAC.

I'm a little surprised we'd want Bates + Ward + (B or VP) as that creates a lot of bodies at the 4/5 position.

Basically:
4: Jaz, T King, (B or VP)
5: Bates, Ward, Jones

I definitely like having 30 fouls to give in the post, don't get me wrong, but that's a lot of big bodies to get minutes for (makes me think Jones and T King won't get much run this year, if everyone stays healthy)

Probably unlikely we get all three (Bates, VP, and Basile) but I see where you are coming from, however I do see a situation where T King, VP and even Jaz could play at the 3.

It is more than just conference imo.
BVP is a 34.5% shooter on his last 350 3PA and has a better handle, and at basically the same size has more ability to defend multiple positions. Add in the MAC is better, and Ohio in particular a good team the last two seasons. It is more likely you get the same BVP, or near same, when moving up imo.

Plus can Watson see minutes as the 4 is we need to go small? That is more 4/5s than you need if viewing 4 and 5s as different. Maybe that was a Enaruna thing?

How does Jones impact recruiting is a good question. Imo, he is a sufficient for the 5th big role. Even if you can get a better 5th big, given the minutes played, wouldn't the spot be better used on a guard or shooter?

Just my opinion, but upgrades, even if it means 6 bigs, are tempting if they are all different types. Basile has potential to be a paint scorer that the others are not. BVP is a really good shooter listed as a wing forward that can really shoot and has positional handle if defended by 4s or 5s, and 6'8" 230 can play with multiple guys. Ward elite team defender and upgrade finisher. Bates an NBA center prospect if not injured.

Plus, if King is out the 1st semester, and you view Jones as insurance level only, that is a 4 man rotation.

By play, we mean defend, right?
Can Ward or BVP defend some wings? Ward bills himself as defending 1-5, but that's more a switching thing, right? BVP listed as wing forward, but I agree we don't want him on Big 12 wings.

Yeah, if they land Basile and Bates I don't see Jones or King playing very much. Even if they just land Basile I don't see Jones playing much.
