My wife and I are going to be moving to New Jersey, and as a result, we are going to sell one of our cars. I looked online for the steps, and it looks like I just need to complete the information on the title as well as create and sign a Bill of Sale, which I found one online.

The question is what is the best way to get my car out there for people to see? Is there a good website that gets a lot of views for this kind of stuff?

Thanks in advance!

Facebook marketplace seems to sell a lot of vehicles.

Ditto Facebook. Whenever I'm shopping I usually check Autotrader, too, but that might be a bit out-dated. Also, we've gotten pretty decent offers from Carmax in the past - not quite as high as selling private party, but better than any other dealership I've worked with.

I’ve not used Facebook, but I have sold motorcycles via Craigslist back in the dark ages. It (Facebook) seems like the best place to get the most for your car IF you can find a legit buyer. Have antennas up for the scammers, which will be at least 4 of every 5 contacts.

The good news is you picked a great time to sell. Take it around to dealerships and get quotes if the internet isn’t working for you.

Trading it in would be nice and easier. This is a good idea, I may go to a Carmax just to see what they have to say. I think looking at Kelly Blue book, my car would be worth around $5000, but maybe I'll be surprised.

Check what comparables are listing for before putting your asking price as the KBB value. Depending on the area vehicles have been increasing in value faster than KBB can keep up.

I'd just do carvana - probably get a better price than carmax, and carvana will come to your house, give you a check, and take your car. its really easy.

You can setup an appt on their website if you want - then you just show up, they check out the car, and you should have an offer (good for 7 days) within like 30 mins.

I haven't looked on Craigslist in years. I bought and sold my last motorcycle via Facebook marketplace

I see that you can even do it all online, which I may do today. I'm just curious what happens after 7 days? I assume their offer is void and they would have to reevaluate it? But not sure.

I'm not sure where you're currently located but we looked for a decent school car for our son for months in that price range and there just isn't much out there. It's a sellers market, especially if it's in decent shape and you have service records etc.

How close are you to Rhode Island?

2011 Scion TC, manual with around 150k miles.

Dealers are aggressively buying used cars. However, that age and number of miles won't likely get them enthused. Never-the-less, it doesn't hurt to drop into a dealer or so and see what they'll pay. That would be easiest by far. Next, Craigslist is good, but as others have said, weed out the fake buyers. Take off the plates, execute a bill of sale, sign over the title, take the cash = you're done.

If selling privately, make sure to look up any state guidelines for selling your car. Also, print off a Bill of Sale form to fill out when selling that has the buyers information and make a copy of it (for your record, and the buyer).

The manual part will be the biggest hiccup.
