Tyrese Hunter Entering the Transfer Portal - NIL Speculation

None of that is putting money in their pockets.

I see schools making money left and right, billions of dollars. I see kids wearing jerseys of current players.

Why shouldn’t the Breece receive compensation for the ad selling 5 star culture T shirts?

Who developed the 5 star culture and invested in that infrastructure? Breece was a great player. But where is David Montgomery’s money? He helped lay the foundation as well as others. The problem is that the infrastructure to make Breece a star and get the fame and publicity was made by others. What should our NIL payroll be? At what point do the fans just say screw it? It really isn’t worth it.

**** NIL and **** all the people pre-NIL who said it would be good for college athletics (you know who you are). The truth is we let the lion out of the cage without any safety measures in place. There should have been rules, caps, contracts, etc. to help keep things in order before just saying "**** it" and having a free-for-all cluster****. I would think some of our old Cyclone greats who bleed cardinal and gold are probably disgusted with this whole new world.

This response seems to leave out the vast majority of pro-NIL people, including myself, who didn't claim it would be good for college athletics but supported it because these kids deserve to be paid what they are worth.

It stinks for Iowa State, and I get that. But at the end of the day these kids that are getting paid are cashing in on their skills/abilities in a line of work where your skills/abilities can be fleeting. They deserve to be compensated their market rate just like any other business out there. And if that creates some harsh realities for Iowa State, I guess it is what it is for me.

We've found ways to be competitive when things were competitively unbalanced before. We will do it again. It's not like a star freshman haven't been poached by bigger schools before. Wesley Johnson. Shawn Taggert. It happened pre-NIL too.

Might be in the minority, but if anyone isn't all in then good riddance. Doesn't matter if you're the star or a walk-on. The program is being built on mutual support and dedication, and there's nothing more TJ could do to provide support.

After all this could anyone come back to the locker room after chasing money or a different team, and everyone on the team just forgets about that? Trust and credibility are gone, and that doesn't work for what TJ's trying to build. Especially in this instance when it's supposed to be one of the core leaders. Feels like Wes Johnson all over.

Right, this entire thread is really just this forum throwing a tantrum over one guy leaving and how this is now the end of all college athletics, when we've come out way ahead in the transfer market over the last 10+ years.

I think the freaking out is due to the fact that high dollar boosters can just buy players from other programs now. "Oh, that's a nice freshman you have there, I think we'll buy him now. Thanks for the effort peasant".

Sure, ISU has benefited from transfers, but this is different.

Thank you for admitting that all those kids were robbed as well

You and many others already don’t put your money in. Never complain about losses again

I will say one big positive here is having a guy like TJ at the helm. I'd imagine being younger would make you more inclined to adapt to this new landscape. I'd also imagine getting burned on something like this early on will make him want to figure out a way for it to not happen again. I'll bet he has JP's ear at this point about how to avoid this happening again.

Does anyone even know how much Tyrese made in NIL this past year?

Pretty much the exact way the world works in general. "Sweet accountant! $$$ Mine now sucker." College sports was loved because it was different. Right or wrong it was different. Now its just lesser pro sports.

I get it, my take won't be popular because it's a very emotional topic for a lot of people posting here but personally I'd rather see people get paid what their worth than some org take that money. It's a business, they're employees, pay them what they're worth.

I never once thought I was an employee of ISU when I was playing football here.

True. But in business, if your company sends you back to school to get a post grad degree and that makes you suddenly attractive to another company, you can't just jump ship without compensation to your company for that degree. So since these athletes are increasing their earnings potential based on opportunities and training provided by a school, shouldn't that school have some protection from them leaving?

That's a horrible analogy. That implies he did nothing for Iowa State while here. He came here, competed hard and helped take us to a Sweet 16. There's no sense acting like "we made Tyrese Hunter".

Do you really not think what Tyrese Hunter gave to Iowa State (i.e. helped to a national ranking, Sweet 16, Hilton sellouts again, etc.) is outweighed by our contribution to him, which is an amount exactly equal to what Jaden Walker, Bob Jones, etc.

Which is why I will probably lose interest in Iowa State eventually. They're going to be a farm team for the blue bloods. Yawn.
