Texas Football Program Culture

“They’re always talking about coming in here and changing stuff. It’s like ingrained. You’re uprooting, what? 10 years of s--- that’s just been let go.”

What a great quote. Hilarious, but also, Ojomo actually seems to have his head on straight.

Sark trying to cover it up as "family business" means he knows its a wreck, knows he isn't getting it fixed, and doesn't want anyone to know for as long as possible.

Burn baby burn.

When you're literally the richest athletic department in the nation and your state has more 5 star prospects than any other state in the nation, it's virtually impossible to bring in guys who will ignore the golden escalator and climb up the mountain the hard way.

Thank goodness raw talent is only part of the equation.

Charlie Strong tried to fix the culture. He failed, but he tried. I don't think any other coaches really tried all that hard - they were keenly aware how results mattered on the field. Hard to change the culture when doing what it takes to change it is likely to involve leadership turnover.

The best Texas line ever was: 5-star players versus 5-star culture.

Coach Tang said exactly the same thing yesterday. Paraphrasing: he's not targeting kids that are worried about nightlife. The kids he's bringing in will care about basketball more than anything else. He said the distance and isolation of Manhattan are actually a plus because it will help them focus on hoops. (Source: PNW)

Please don't tell us that Tang described it as 'Focustown'.

I admire Charlie Strong for what he wanted to do, but he never had a chance. No head coach will ever have the power to change the culture at Texas - not by themselves, anyway. Any real culture change is going to take blowing up the ship - not just the football and/or MBB coach, but also AD, president, flushing out the existing players, including other sports programs that may cause problems. But the big money donors will never allow that to happen - they don't have the patience for it. It's easier for them to tell themselves everything will be better when they're playing in the SEC

Texas has too much of an ego to allow themselves to admit how deeply their problems are embedded in their culture. And as a result, I look forward to watching them under achieve for decades to come.

Texas DL says Longhorns ‘want to chase women, want to chase money, want to chase alcohol’

welcome to college lol
This quote could apply directly to some of the coaches, current and past. Herman, Jeff Banks (monkey), even Sark. It's not just the athletes.

The only way it gets fixed is if they bring someone in who could be BIGGER than all that arrayed against him; bigger than the boosters and their money especially. Think Saban or Belichek, or someone of that stature and force of will. And I just don't think they will get anyone like that.

That said, a different kind of "right coach" could come in and work with the flow of bad culture and win more games just with talent. Maybe win 9-10 a year just on talent. But still not going to compete for championships that way. That could be Sark, remains to be seen.

I'm highly doubtful it's Sark. Highly.

I'd like to wish him luck because we all deserve another chance in life, but he's coaching the Cows so.....
