Why won't Jamie Pollard schedule any P5 schools other than Iowa?

I've always thought our schedule was boring. I know we have Iowa in-state, which takes up a non-conference game; however, every single year it's Iowa, FCS opponent (80% of the time UNI) and then a Mountain West/Sun Belt/MAC team. I took a look at all the scheduled non-conference games for each of the 8 schools remaining in the Big 12 and honestly, was beyond frustrated seeing it. I can't be the only one who thinks this right?

Your list is deceiving. ISU plays Iowa each year. Several of the schools you listed above are also just playing 1 P5 school a year. The length you listed of each school's schedule gives the appearance that ISU is not playing as tough a schedule, but I see very few "extra" P5 games with the exception of WVU.

Pretty simple we would have to not play Iowa if you wanted to play another P5 otherwise it makes our schedule probably the toughest in the country. Iowa, UNI, and P5 is not a good schedule. Need to work on things early in the season, don't want to throw the team into the frying pan right away.

You think any of these teams above have any interest in a trip to Jack Trice Stadium? JTS reputation is on the same level as Hilton at this point.

I don't buy the argument that it's cus we're stuck using a non-conference spot for Iowa when other states have the exact same issue and they continue to schedule P5 opponents other than their in-state rival.

The ACC and SEC only play 8 conference games so don't use them as a benchmark.

The list had a combined 74 seasons on it. Of those, the OP only had 5 (6.7%) where a school had two opponents. Three of those were Houston who are not currently in a P5. So, the OP's example had 2/74 seasons (2.7%) with double booked P5 opponents.

The OP list confirms that Iowa State schedules like it's peers. In fact, possibly harder since Iowa is regularly a top20 team in September.
