Probably drove past that bridge a million times and I just noticed that it was painted cardinal and gold. Is this a new paint job or has it been like that for a while?

Feels like longer than that (TWSS).
Maybe when the space needles went in?

Seems about right.

The cardinal and gold is a really nice touch, but this is my personal favorite:

I know someone on the City of Ames public art commission, and they were originally responsible for those. I always thought they were kind of neat, but she absolutely hates them.

I think it's just an odd area to have them. Basically in front of a quarry. I get the art point of view for people that don't go further West though.
I think they would have been "cooler" along 30 in between Vet Med and Ag Leader.

That's fair. I always saw them as sort of a gateway to the city, rather than just a gateway to the university, but I get where you're coming from

That area (the quarry area) needs something though, so I get it. It's not a real visually appealing area after you exit off of I35.

Weren't there people complaining about how the rocket ships/needles were KU colors? Maybe they painted the bridge to bring some ISU school colors to the area.
