with the return of ashley and getting fritz back and hopefully maggie will be 100% healthy how will bill get minutes for everyone

maybe he can give ashley a little more of a break because i know the beating she takes every game has to take a toll on her

cant wait for next season to get started already !!!

Is Beatriz Jordão coming back for another year? I think she played really well this year. Beatriz and Morgan combined to actually give us a solid post presence.

Based on the space our shooters provided them I'd describe the pair as serviceable. If you add an athletic 4 and 5 to this squad they'd have talent and depth on par with anyone in the country.

Ashley and Fred were the only two who did senior festivities, so I'm assuming Fred is the only one leaving. Barring any transfers, but I consider it a good sign we haven't heard anything yet on that front.

Barring a big add via the portal I don't see much change in the minutes. Joens, Ryan and Donarski will play most of the minutes at their spots. We have two positions to find minutes for six/seven players. Sort of wondering where Fritz will fit it. Never really saw her play enough to have any real idea how she will play in Div 1.

Shantavia Dawkins, our solo Class of 2022 add, is also a wildcard. Not like a lot of peeps got to see her play and recruiting sites don't much dig into rating foreign gals. Supposed to be fast and athletic so who knows.

Having Diew start seemed to allow Ashley to not get swallowed up and constantly getting her shot blocked on drives. Teams in the conference know that and will put the bigger forward on her. Adding a big athletic 4 makes that much more difficult.

Taller players commonly need more time to develop physically and in their skills. I was astonished in the development of Izzy in the last 12 months - expect that to continue. Morgan and Beatriz progressed during the season. We won’t have a Bevo post - wouldn’t fit our style - but I expect Cassandra to continue her work - being able to rotate posts who can go hard all game is a blessing.

Next year I expect Diew's role to be consistently more similar to what it was at the end of this season. She made quite a bit of improvement over the course of the year, even with her injury interrupting non-conference. Her playing the 4 gives more versatility and probably makes things easier for Ashley. She'll also keep getting minutes at the 5 in some matchups.

However, if that happens, someone will most likely be the odd person out of the guard rotation with Ashley playing more minutes at the 3. I think Fritz will get backup minutes, because I think she's going to be a better defender and might be more well-rounded offensively than MEM and Aubrey. Then between MEM and Aubrey, it depends on who's shooting better and who can offer more defensively.

For the posts, I expect continued development from Kane, probably not as much from Jordao, but maybe some. If one of Vick or Zingaro is able to work her way into the rotation, that's a good sign. I'm still interested to see if Kane or any others start shooting more threes. Maybe Fennelly doesn't want them to, but I feel like that would add more flexibility that could keep the lane more open for all the guards driving or posting up smaller defenders. Kane's free throw shooting and her career 6-11 from three show that she can be good enough out there to pull a defender if she shoots more.

Would Bill ever consider having two posts out there at the same time? Depending on the opponent, this might be a plus for the 4 posts plus Diew. Especially if the keeping cycling and keeping fresh legs.

He did do that in the first Texas game (the four posts played a combined 71 minutes), but that was obviously kind of necessary with the Joens sisters out. But I don't remember him doing it in any of the other Texas or Baylor games, at least not any more than a minute or two.

I think he'd do it in certain matchups if he feels he has the personnel to do it. But in order to do that, I figure one of the posts in has to be able to defend some on the perimeter and one of them has to offer something offensively that's more than just putbacks and being the screener in pick and rolls. Otherwise the offense gets too bogged down since 2/5 of it can't really do anything with the ball in their hands.

I definitely agree that it would be nice if the posts developed enough to at least make this an option. But I worry that their styles of play are all too similar for it to work.

I'd say calling Kane and Jordao "serviceable" is about the best way to describe them. Neither are much of a post presence to take the pressure off our main scorers but neither are liabilities either and you know you will get a fairly consistent effort and contribution from them. If this team had a player like Poppens or Christofferson (I'd say Welle here too but she is class of her own that doesn't come around often for ISU) that could draw the defense inside more it would really free up Ashley to do more off the dribble or give our guards more spacing. Probably wishful thinking that we'll get such a player in the transfer portal this year but if they could add an upgrade at the 5 that can provide some post presence it would really elevate the potential of this current group.
