The Iowa State Risk Assessment team and University Counsel sent out these proposed categories of sports clubs into “low risk”, “high risk, supported” and “high risk, not supported”. In total they’re proposing cutting 14 club sports.

I thought the same thing. Proximity to water should not necessarily make it dangerous. Fishing is somehow more "dangerous" than hockey? Wrestling? (and I'm not saying those are dangerous)

Sad, but as stated, this is all about liability.

I imagine a significant part of it is where these activities are. Most of the high risk activities are things that can't be done in Ames. Hockey is more dangerous than fishing is, but when hockey is played with trainers nearby or EMS minutes away vs the fishing club being on a lake in the middle of nowhere, the worst case for fishing might be worse.

The high risk “Ladies in Fitness” sport seems intriguing.
