ESPN article on all time Sweet 16 teams

Hoiberg over Hornacek?

They said they were trying to form a well rounded team rather than just best players. I could see Tinsley as the best point guard and Grayer/Hoiberg as the other guards/wings over Hornacek. Then Fizer and versatile Niang down low. They also mentioned it's college only where Hornacek being the greatest NBA Cyclone of all time doesn't apply

Given how horrible analysis of this team has been it's a surprisingly good team to me. Most commentators don't realize IB was our main gun all year because of TH and GK led the team in scoring these two games.

Tinsley and Grayer would have murdered most of the back courts listed here. But our bigs would be no match for some of these other teams.

I say UNC or UCLA are the winners here.

They under ranked that group.

Yeah, it's a "college only" list and if you ignore NBA career Fizer was one of the most dominating college players I've seen. I think I'd still put Fizer as top five dominant Big 12 players I've ever seen.

Still half the teams above us have multiple Final Fours and/or championship seasons so just being 13th is pretty good. A team below us has a recent National Championship game appearance.

Kareem, Reggie Miller and Walton might actually be better players if they came up in today's game with modern rules. They definitely wouldn't be worse.

Fun hypothetical. The team ESPN listed vs

Monte
Hornacek
Stevens
Ejim
Cato

I think the ESPN team would win, but it would be entertaining. You could probably make another team or two as well that would be highly competitive.

I'll try another team, although I only go back to mid 90s.

Halliburton G
Kane G
Stinson G
Homan F
Royce F

The team is fine, whatever. I’m kinda pissed at the picture of Tinsley they chose. Of all the NCAA games ISU has been in, they chose that one?

Also linked & discussed (briefly) in the ISU News and Tweets thread.

Summarizing my response there - ISU's top-5 ranks about where I would put it among the 16, or roughly where I'd expect it to be ranked. Perhaps above Providence. I think the Iowa State lineup could beat the Gonzaga unit head-to-head.

A lot of the squads in top-10 are mind-boggling to imagine.

Fun... I think I would swap out Hoiberg and put in Willoughby!

Hornacek was a great college player but a MUCH better pro!
