Some facts to sleep on as we await our seeding/location tomorrow...

Iowa State had regular season wins against teams in their conference tournament finals from the:
  • Big 12 (Texas Tech)
  • Big East (Creighton)
  • Big Ten (Iowa)
  • AAC (Memphis)
  • Southland (SE Louisiana)
Iowa State has played 32 games
  • 18 of those games were against NET top 50 teams
  • 23 of the 32 are against top 77 NET teams.

Iowa State has 9 Q1 wins
  • top 5 in the country

Iowa State has a SOS of 11th in the country

Iowa State has a SOR of 30th

Iowa State has the #10 best Adjusted Defense in the country

Point is...this season is still insanely impressive after we won 2 last year. We're likely headed to 8/9 seed and yeah that sucks but given we are in the tourney, just making it is gravy to me. I can't wait to see how we do against non-Big 12 teams. Maybe we are toast and **** the bed...who knows. But I can't wait to see them fight another day.

If we had known that was going to be the strength of schedule at the beginning of the year, it would have been optimistic to think they'd get 10 wins. 20 wins took great recruiting to start, great coaching, buy-in from the players, and fantastic effort throughout.

I am actually mad at TJ for not having incorporated the system from Loyola Marymount with Texas Tech level defense already.

I mean wtf TJ? Coach your team, will you?

We legit looked like a solidly top 25 team before mid January. And we legit looked like an extremely well coached team as well. i’m not just talking about wins and losses, I’m talking about the eye test. And then everything changed.

Didn't you post the other day that TJ hasn't done any coaching?
 
My impression is that they are either worn down by the all-in effort to start the season or that they are extremely streaky and hit a fortunate string of games in the non-conf to make themselves look REALLY good.

I hate to minimize the kind of season they’ve had, because I did not think even making the tournament would be a possibility until they started dominating the non-conference like they did. But the momentum seems to have worn off.

That said, I think they are the kind of team to take this talk personally and go on a tear in the tournament. But they have also shown that they are the type of team to struggle to score 40+ points in a single game lately so it’s hard to tell which ISU team will show up.
 
Without our undefeated non con we probably don't make the field but it definitely made us forget our preseason expectations. Having "experts" list us on the one line prior to the conference schedule clouded what a 7 win improvement in Big XII play really means for the program's future.
