Wow…it’s always hard to beat someone you just played, but this was a tale of two halves. One was good and one was butt ugly.

The first half was total domination by the sisters. After a back and forth first quarter where WVU and the sisters were hotter than hot, the second game saw the sisters just unleash domination on WVU. Nice double digit lead at halftime.

Then the second half happened. What if I told you that Ashley and Lexi would only have two points between them until the last minute of the game after both scoring 11 in the first? WVU turned a 19 point ISU into a nail biter. Fortunately the ladies did just enough at the line to pull this one out.

Observations
Player of the Game - Jordaro. Man she was active out there. Not a big scoring day but 12 boards was fantastic!

The Problem - in the second half the team forgot what got them there. No team play and lots of one on five efforts. A crapload of turnovers. Ugh

Ashley- first half was hot and the second half was cold. She pulled down FOURTEEN boards and played scrappy D though.

Donasrski - played her usual great defense and like Joens saw her offense dry up in the second.

Emily - like everyone else she had good moments and bad. The turnovers really hurt us at times. The team ended up with about 18 I believe. She had a couple of nice drives for points, but had some head scratchers as well.

Second half - we missed a bunch of shots, but the lack of team play and ball movement really hurt. Players would drive to the middle and just piddle the ball away.

M&M - was reported to be in a boot again but still had some good minutes. Has a calming effect on the court.

Crowd - as usual there is a great ISU crowd at Municipal. Very loud and supportive.

Officials- I don’t usually say much about the officials but this crew was really, really bad. Very inconsistent and like some teams allowed the game to get too physical. They missed many traveling calls as well. One of the poorer teams I’ve seen this year. We have to hope we don’t see them again.

So, the team advanced. We wait to see who they will face and hope the funk they fell into in the second half is out of their system. See you all tomorrow!

You seem to undervalue Emily pretty much every game.

Also Aubrey did as much as MEM.

I’ve always said the same thing…Em is perhaps the best point we’ve ever had. That being said she had some careless turnovers today. Do we win without her…no way. I just write what I see without having gush goodness all the time.

I agree about Aubrey. She’s one scrappy little guard. Didn’t make big scoring contributions but she is always in the middle of whatever is going on.

You make a point of stressing Emily's turnovers, but don't mention Ashley's or her 25% shooting by forcing it inside.

Mine was a quick write up on my phone from the stadium. You make a good point and we’ve talked here about her driving in with her head down and this not really aware of her surroundings. You should note that I did talk about the difference between her first and second half which addresses your point.

Most of the team watched much of the first half of the Texas / K-State game. Emily, Ashley, and Aubrey were in the group that stayed til the middle of the 4th quarter. BB junkies. Love it.

Emily dropped a couple of dimes that were awesome. One they showed as a highlight during the evening mens tournament game. A guy with KU gear was quite impressed. Got to chatting with him learned he went to school with Emily’s mom.

Back in the day when I played Basketball our coach had a saying...."A Basketball Team is Only as Good as it's Point Guard!"
Emily Ryan can dribble a basketball left handed better than most right handers can dribble the ball....
...and remember GO CYCLONES

Emily is great, especially for a sophomore, but as she goes, ISU goes. Her last game at Texas was bad, with 8 Turnovers to only 2 Assists. She was dominated by Rori Harmon (Freshman of Year and All Defensive Team) and couldn't even get our offense started. She didn't use screens, leaving way too much room, such that Harmon was beating her to the spot over the top.

I understand what you're saying about Ashley, and wish she would pass it back out once in awhile rather than turning it over inside, but she's trying to carry the team on her broad shoulders when the young ones lose confidence. Fair or unfair, she gets a little bit of a pass.

Anyway, from top to bottom, ISU has a likeable women's basketball team. Here's hoping: 1) Emily handles the Rori Harmon ball pressure; 2) The officials don't allow Texas to mug us; 3) We don't get into foul trouble (as KSU did yesterday), and 4) we move the ball around, share shots and hit our threes.
