Just got home after that and all I can say is....

...that was not a good movie. Pattinson was great and the cinematography was fantastic.

However, the last fifth or so of that movie derailed it entirely. I don't see how everyone is rating this so highly.

The dialogue was forced and forgettable, and the cheated in a lot of scenes. I laughed out loud at the semi trailer forming a perfect ramp, and Batman solves riddles faster than I can do a wordle.

Also, the mayor-elect swimming around perfectly right after being shot was horrendously bad.

One of you is going to have to explain to me why everyone else thinks this is good because i just don't see it

I admit I rolled my eyes at the ramp forming, and I agree with your mayor comment, but overall I really liked the movie. I'd give it a solid 8/10 and would like to see it again.

I saw it tonight. Thought it was OK. Action scenes were good. Cast was good. I just thought that they could have cut about a half hour out of it and made it flow better. It was way too long and kind of disjointed.

This riddles were easy, I’m not super intelligent but answered them before he even did. It’s a movie, if you’re mad about the semi trailer thing how do you like any movies at all? Was she swimming? Or walking? If those are your major gripes then I don’t understand how you feel so strongly that it was bad. I definitely disagree about the dialogue. I loved the movie. We got to see a young detective Batman/Bruce Wayne. He had growth through the movie, and some awesome fight scenes. Kravitz was great as cat woman, and so was Dano as the riddler. Gotham felt like an actual city not just Chicago or New York. The focus on the mob was great, much like the comics.

I really don’t see how the last fifth ruined it, it made the movie great imo. We saw Batman get his “vengeance” line thrown in his face and realize he has to be a symbol of hope, not fear. Him being a symbol of fear and vengeance helped give the riddler courage to enact on what he wanted to do. He failed from stopping the bombs go off because he’s young and inexperienced. He thinks he can solve most everything with brute force but can’t. He realized he can help by being Bruce Wayne rather than just the Batman. Seriously, what derailed it?

The action scenes were fun, but the movie was way too long.

Plot was predictable, the main villain was lame, and the social justice lines sprinkled in the dialogue were cringe-worthy.

Hollywood is out of good ideas and are left to repackage old ones.

Save your money and spend 3 hours watching paint dry for a better experience.

Overall grade: C+

For anyone who’s been waiting for a comic accurate Batman, this movie is the closest it’s ever been. Pattinson was perfect as Batman(not the best Bruce Wayne), and the reimagining of Penguin and the Riddler were great. The last fifth as has been said does start the slow down of the movie ever so slightly, but had to for Batman to grow, just like in the comics. The movie never felt like 3 hours to me. Went by really fast. Fans of the comics will love this movie. Fans of The Dark Knight movie might not think it’s as good. It’s the best movie by far in actually capturing how Batman has been written and putting it on the big screen. Matt Reeves nailed it, and I can’t wait for the second one.

Hollywood has a tendency lately to make these action/superhero movies way too long. Many of these are 3 hours long which seems unnecessary.

DC is the worst about it, but even Marvel's have been getting pretty long. Eternals was 2 hours 37 minutes. Granted Marvel Runtimes get all jacked up because they include all the credits and multiple stingers and everything. Actual movies are likely less than 2 hours.

That makes sense on the run times for Marvel movies now. It just seems that some of these movies can have a 20 to 30 minute lull were nothing happens that could easily be cut out.

I thought Paul Dano’s Riddler was great. Terrifying in the way the Zodiac was terrifying

I really enjoyed it. Some of the lines were a bit cringe worthy. Esp references to real world politics.

Not sure if I'll go out and see it right now. Might just wait for re-re-reboot in another 10 years.
Seriously though, my daughter really liked it and it looks interesting, just hard to get excited when the Dark Knight series was so outstanding and still completely watchable.

They need to figure out this HBO Max thing too, because honestly I think a 45 day window isn't enough. I mean it'll be on HBO Max next month.

The Dark Knight and Ledger’s Joker will stand the test of time and will be hard to top, but a lot of Bat fans have wanted a darker, Rated R version of Batman like this because the campy stuff has been done.

Nolan’s Batman movies were more rooted in reality than any one before it. But I think Reeves pulled that off here too with a darker reimagining of each character. This felt to me like the Batman that might belong in the Joaqin Phoenix Joker world because both had an equally dreary vision of Gotham and its inhabitants and their own personal demons.

The social justice stuff is part of what makes Batman, Batman. He’s an Uber wealthy individual going out and beating people up. His wealth could help a lot more people than beating a random thug half to death. It was important for him to realize that. He idolized his father for his generosity but was too into being Batman than having oversight on the Wayne foundation, which was fueling even more criminal activity in the city.
