That's scary. Are you saying that you didn't know about the tornado watch /warnings?
The Weather Channel app is also showing 3-5” for DSM on Thursday. Is that right?
This video completely reinforces my desire to have an actual tornado shelter instead of just going to the basement:
I didn’t say it never happened. That tornado was over 100 years ago and occurred March 21-23. Yesterday was March 5th.
People around the country seeing all this damage in Iowa are going to be really confused since most of the visuals will be from areas that weren’t so glaciated, aka hilly.
Question for any weather broadcasters/knowledgeable people:
When I watch coverage from the Quad-State tornadoes from December, those broadcasters made heavy use of the correlation coefficient on their coverage. Why don’t DSM stations utilize this more in their on-air coverage? I know that it’s being looked at “behind the scenes”. It seems
Like DSM stations were slow to embrace mixing velocity products in to their on air coverage as well. What drives that?
Also, will we be seeing the rebirth of local stations employing well-trained and experienced storm chasers in to their coverage again after the uptick in tornado activity both in Iowa and around the country?

Really weird yellow clouds around 6 pm here in Ames about 10 minutes after it deluged here. Five minutes after I took this it turned dark and the street lights came on. Just really eerie.
I feel odd even bringing it up given recent events being way more important but since I’m going any thoughts on the drive to KC on Thursday with the forecast?
