Pollard on Cyclone Club Level Changes

Its not exactly a 50% increase either. 4 Tickets for $600, and $1000 donation for gold was $850 per ticket. Bumping $1500 donation for Gold means its now $975 per ticket. That’s only a 15% increase.

I’m a college student. Not sure donating to the Cyclone Club is in the cards for me at the moment. I just was not aware of our donor situation and that we don’t have very many high level donors
Pass up on Thristy Thursdays and send the savings... ;)

Except football tickets went up a year ago

it is going to be interesting in the future...

former students with ~50k in student loans... do they donate? I'm not.

How is that any different than the last 20 years? My wife & I each had near that amount of debt ~10-15 years ago, and didn't have the funds to donate - we lugged the family to the hillsides. Now that those loans are paid off, we joined the States level a couple years ago & are planning on moving to Cardinal this year. I think that's a pretty regular progression, and don't think it'll really change much.

These numbers are definitely embarrassing compared to the other schools in the conference and we need to step it up.

It’s easy to place blame but I think ISU needs to do more outreach to get more alums donating. I live out of state and would not have any idea about this if it weren’t for CF. I donate now to help the program, not for tickets. I’m sure lots of others would as well.

Yep, 6,600 donors is pretty pathetic, especially when considering the opening is $100.

I am jumping way ahead in this thread from page 2, but I just wanted to comment that I bet MANY donors do this the same way I do with the group I am attached to. We all give our $$ to one person who donates for us as a group. In my case (4) of us donate to one individual who collects all the credit for it, but in reality there are 4 donors. Then, within that same group, there is another group of wives/friends who donate together at a lower level. So, there are like 12 individual donors all going together, but to the university it looks like there are only 2 donors. I write all that to say that the 6,000 donor number doesn't mean much to me.

He said the bridge will be done by football season, but did he say the new parking lots that use it would be done?

I agree on the Hilton conerns over JTS. Sitting on the 50 yard line in the upper deck is a GREAT SEAT and requires a $300 donation. For center court at a MBB game in the balcony. That donation is $3750...

The only people with MBB seats in low rows at center court in the balcony at the $3750 level will be the ones who have been giving at that level for the longest. You don't simply enter a donation level and get access to the best seats in the section. If you want good seats, you have to move over a section or two and grab what's available, effectively bumping back other people who give at that level.

More of us need to step up to our own account....tough to do but necessary.

You nailed it. I live out of state too..... and ISU does a bad job of reaching out to alumni for support. I also donate (Gold level) and will continue to do so. ISU needs to get more aggressive reaching out. Don't be afraid to ask for the $.

I think offering benefits for those that live out of state would help with that as well. I am out of state and have been for years. I only make it back for a football game every year or two - and sadly haven't been to a basketball game for 7-8 years. So the parking and ticket benefits don't do anything for me. I still do donate, but I think would probably donate more if they did something for those of us that the tickets/parking do not apply to.

I don't know what benefits that might be, maybe offer team issued gear or something exclusive that you could only get through the CC?

Anyways, I do think reaching out to out of state alumni is something they should really do more of. Seems like something they could really tap into.

I think Iowa State is at a point where they need to “rebrand” a little bit. Our facilities are no longer a laughing stock, enrollment is near record levels, and our programs are successful.

Also worth noting: when I first got basketball tickets 13 years ago, non-donor seats were $99 for a 20 games. The same seats are now $275 for 16 games. The AD will do their best to get maximum return.

We are in the same boat, that $99 deal was back when we were struggling to fill Hilton during Wayne Morgan's tenure. I knew eventually they would go up in price and we never flinched when they were raising them by about $25 a year because even when they got up to $200 it was basically $10 a game on average. Sill not terrible today for basically $14 a game as when we are good you can't even find nosebleeds for that for a good match up.

Should also offer extra perks for first time Polk and Dallas county resident donors. Lock the DSM metro in even more.
