Way up there
Beard already lost this kid

There have been rumblings on social media that he isn't the only one unhappy. I've heard Marcus Carr is unhappy, makes sense, he's not playing well and also Christian Bishop who is playing about half the minutes he was getting at Creighton. Beard has always done a great job mixing in transfers with returning kids but this may have been a little too much.

Beards teams usually play defense, which requires a lot of work. Don't know if that's the case here.

I agree he's a good coach but his last two years at Tech they went 9-9 and 9-8 in big play. I don't think he's the miracle worker he's portrayed to be.
Beard had those records at Texas Tech, after he played for a National Championship. The guy is a hell of a coach, and now he is at the UT, it will be easier for him to get the best talent in the state to come play in Austin as compared to Lubbock.

Problem with bringing in 4 and 5 star players is they tend to think only about scoring and offense, and most have never been asked or required to play defense to get minutes, so I am sure a few of them are struggling with the idea that unless you play defense, you are not playing, so they leave.

Is this a "I didn't come here on a track scholarship" moment for them? This may be a very good thing for Texas in the long run. Get rid of the guys not willing to put in the work to play in a Beard system.

I think this is true but Shaka worked his kids too, shouldn't have been that much of a culture shock. Shaka's teams issues were rarely on the defensive end of the court.

I think he's a good coach and really dangerous in March but his teams have been beatable in the regular season. They were men against boys playing the pillow soft Steve Prohm teams the last two years but everyone else was beating them...

Texas was a defensive minded program under Shaka.

Good, good.
Obligatory...

Beard's worst conference record was his first year where he went 6-12, after that he bumped it up to 11 then 14 wins, his last two he won 9 games. So after his first season, the next four he went 500% or better in the league every year. Tubby Smith went 500% or better one time, Pat Knight never won more than 5 conference games and the two coaches after him won one and three. You have to go back to the Bob Knight years to find another 500% or better conference record, and the most conference games Knight ever won at TT was 10.

Beard can coach, plan and simple, it will take him a year to get his type of players in the league, but when he does, he will be fighting it out with Kentucky for the SEC conference championship.

you know that a decimal and a % are different, right?

It is always about getting the players to buy in to what the coach is asking. If that is not happening and a few kids are not happy it can be a cancer. It just depends how much it spreads and for how long. Good coach or not, it can be an issue.

He did get Texas Tech one shot away from winning a national title. That's pretty incredible. They were horrendous before he got there. Time will tell if he can do it at Texas. Texas basketball might have the same issue as their football program. Blue collar coaches don't fit with their white collar mentality.

Agree with this 500%
