U of Texas 10mil NIL fund

NIL will eventually have nothing to do with name, image or likeness. It just becomes pay for play. BYU already has a deal where all walk-ons get equivalent of a scholarship. Basically removes scholarship limits.

Texas misses on a QB recruit. Just go to Wake Forest (or whoever) and tell their starting QB that you can offer him 750K in NIL money next year. Transfer portal and it's done.

What happens when Nike decides they want Oregon to win. Just throw 25 Million in NIL money to them. It's going to alter the whole landscape.

How does any of this involve name, image, or likeness? It seems like we're just funneling money to athletes without regard for NIL matters.
Anyone that ever thought these would be transactions based on advertising (suggesting some sort of ROI) has totally missed the point. The ROI is getting recruits onto the roster. Whether an N, I, or L ever sees the light of day is inconsequential. NIL simply legalizes brown paper bags full of cash. And the rich will get richer.

The few that I know of at UNI, and that's obviously tiny potatoes in comparison, are just contracts that say 'athletes NIL can be used at the company's discretion.' So basically, the company, who I won't reveal because I'm not sure it's public, is basically paying them a retainer fee with absolutely no intent of actually using them in advertising.

I'm really starting to hate college sports.

It's going to be professional versus semipro versus amateur teams soon enough.

That'll go about as well and be about as interesting as you might imagine.

This is the only thing that makes me feel slightly better.

This was always going on under the table. Now it is just going to be out in the open.

Should ISU be giving coaches a raise or putting that money toward paying ISU players?

why? if i won the lottery tomorrow, started a NIL fund for ISU athletes there is no requirement that I pay every athlete. I could just pay the best looking VB and WBB players if I wanted.
Hey now, some of those soccer players are lookers also.
