Question for The Ages

I think these guys are getting everyones best shot. the team is probably banged up and back up guys are young. even though they are young, they are talented, and don't have a leadership role yet. Nuwangu, Soener and Akers are 3 big time leaders this team misses. without those 3 players, I can think of 3 games we would have lost last year.

They need to be coached with a greater sense of urgency. We're trying to be a slow team and I think it saps the crowds energy and excitement. Of course the team out East gets it done like this, so its obviously possible. I just think were trying to use certain key players in the wrong way on offense right now.
Iowa last won a conference title in 2004, and has won one division title (2015). If the goal is to play in the conference championship game or win a conference title (as Campbell has stated is one of his goals), I'm not sure the Iowa model is the best way to go. The offense issues that trouble ISU also seem to nip Iowa at crucial times.

The team with the most points at the end of the fourth quarter wins the game, not the team with the most yards, or TOP, or body blows. IMO, the primary goal of the offense should be to score as many points as one can given the personnel that are recruited. This doesn't mean going full-blown air-raid, but is does mean not just scoring in the second half. The 3 first-half points against UT and 14 against TT are odd and troubling, given that those two teams don't really have good defenses, and given how the ISU offense turned up the scoring in the second half of both games.

And don't settle for tie on the road when your offense is rolling and your defense is struggling (I'm sure that fits into one of hoosman's categories).

Maybe I am wrong but what I see is an ISU football team that PLAYS UP TO THE LEVEL OF ITS COMPETITON OR DOWN TO THE LEVEL OF ITS COMPETITION.

And that is very dangerous and why we lost to Baylor....West VA & Texas Tech IMHO....

If this football team played to its highest level every game this season ISU would be undefeated at this time....I FEEL EXTREMELY SORRY FOR THE 20 SENIORS WHO DESERVED A BETTER OUTCOME THAN THIS ONE!!

GO CYCLONES & BEAT THE SOONERS!!

Or maybe it’s the other way around? This is just another typical fan cliche.

You know, nobody talks about the turnovers against Oregon. They even fumbled a kick off or a punt if I remember. As we saw against Iowa, trying to overcome 4 turnovers is almost impossible.
The Univ of Iowa has had our number since 1977 , and that's not going to change no matter who our coach is...CMC or whoever....We have had a 15 game losing streak ended by Dan McCarney and now we are on a 7 game losing streak.....
GO CYCLONES

I’m guessing the players could answer the question for the ages in about two minutes time and be in general agreement. I’m guessing last years roster could do that as well as this years roster since the pattern was largely similar. Put yourself in the players cleats. What would they say about why they have to be down not out before they shift into 5th gear and start steamrollin opponents??

Let’s remember this was also the general trend in Morgantown this year. Just couldn’t get ahead and stay ahead.

Who can forget the Nov 24, 2018 K State game at the Jack? Clearly the most extreme example of the comeback kids where they score 3 touchdowns in the 4th quarter for the mother of all comebacks. Must admit, when it works it’s a helluva ride.

When it doesn’t work, it’s at least worth asking the question why we keep seeing the same story.

Here is our biggest problem. When you have a top heavy conference, like ours, you tend to play without targets on your backs. However, if you win the regular season Big 12 conference like we did, then YOU have the targets on your backs. West Virginia focused much of their preseason prepairing for Iowa State (figuring it would also help against other teams) and it worked. Matt Campbell's biggest mistake was he failed to anticipate the adjustments other teams, like Tech and West Virginia, would do to expose our defensive scheme and effectively counter it. His second mistake was not utilizing the strengths of Brock Purdy in the RPO.

Fair point, although again I think it'd be wise to ask the players if preparation and adjustments were adequate or not.

Outsider lookin in, it seems to me we violate the number 1 rule of winning more often than being out-adjusted and out-maneuvered by opponents.

And what is the number 1 rule of winning??

Don't. Beat. Yourself.

That’s great to have the scouting perfect before the game, but the opponent isn’t just going to come In and do exactly what we think or what we want them do.
Also, I do not believe you can sustain adjustments for 3 quarters or more of a game. I also think you need half time to make them and this also eliminates the offense from making adjustments easier during a half time if they do not see your adjustments until the second half.

I don't think this staff fails to anticipate anything.

As you tire your fall back to your ingrained traits.
