How smooth is this guy? I know we generally only track yards after contact with running backs, but I feel like, more often than not, after this dude catches the ball, he rarely goes down after first contact. He’s got to drive defensive backs nuts. Hes not the fastest, and he’s not the most elusive, but he’s just got that….je ne sais quoi. He’s so smooth after he’s caught the ball that it almost feels like he’s gliding.

He’s clearly got the attention of the defense and I love it. He was 5 yards behind Brock and I think everyone and their mother knew we were throwing it yet Texas bit

Sark said in his postgame that the coaches told the defense that we were gonna run that play and it didn’t matter. They bit anyway

He just does a bunch of little things right. Like pants said he’s not going to blow you away with his athleticism but he’s just “crisp” enough with his route running and jukes/tackle breaking that he can do a lot of damage after the catch/contact.

He’s quickly becoming one of my favorite Cyclones. The guy just goes to work and produces for us every week.

Everyone talks about how Breece rarely goes down on the first hit. I feel like Hutch is the receiver equivalent of that. He’s just slippery.

I just love to listen to him in his post game interviews. Guy seems like a GREAT teammate and you can tell he is having the time of his life playing on THIS team with THIS group of guys! He is a perfect example of the 5 Star Culture personality that Campbell wants in this program.

The morning after the Oklahoma state game I was on a flight with his parents. The guy sitting next to them asked who their kid was. I didn’t hear, so I asked when we were leaving. His mom said “ number 8”. It made me laugh because he doesn’t need to be identified by his number….we all know he Xavier Hutchinson is! He was the star of the game! As an aside he looks a lot like his mom.

X is so great running after the catch. His catch and run in the CCG was incredible and got ISU back in the game. On top of it the guy does a great job blocking in the run game, which has been a Campbell staple.
On the catches where he isn't catching it in stride, I'm always impressed with how quickly he gets into the run after the catch. There have been several times he has evaded a tackler because I think the defender is expecting more of a pause after he catches it and X has already vacated the spot.
