I got the opportunity to interact with Jon on a non-football issue shortly after he arrived at Iowa State and I was (and still am) incredibly impressed with him. He's just a really good person.

I hope all sides agree and recognize this is match made in Heaven and act like it.

On one hand, I agree with some of what he's saying with respect to the damage the sport is taking because its become so much all about the money.

On the other hand, its a little funny coming from someone who is one of the primary beneficiaries of the infusion of all this money into the system. 10 years ago a coordinator would be making quite a bit less (And back when he started, even head coaches weren't making the money he is now). With all that money comes more expectations and more demands for instant results. Not just from within the AD, but from fans and donors who are continually asked to pony up more. You can't have all that extra money without the extra demands.

The biggest problem football coaches have right now, Is Heightened Expectations to get into the CFP.....and I think you will see a lot more coaches Fired Mid Season in the future......
I remember because I sat in JTS when ISU could not "Draw Flies" in the way of fans, ditto KSU before Bill Snyder (who wanted the ISU job after Criner got fired, and should have been Hired)...Its not fun to go thru a ZERO WIN season and sit in the stands and see your team get hammered every game.

Money ....MONEY & MORE MONEY......That is why the Okies and the Broken Horns are leaving the big 12, and coaches in the future will be like gypsy's ...in the College football realm.....It always has been WIN or GET FIRED...and always will be to the end of time IMHO!!

I am not saying its good because its not .....and remember GO CYCLONES!

Coaches have always been quick to move on, but I do imagine schools making changes more often during the season.....which sucks.

I believe the new gypsy part will be the players. Cash offers, transfer portal, and ability to play right away.

College football is pretty much dead to me now. Hard to believe. I've gone multiple weekends without watching a game. It isn't special any longer.

I think he can make the money and realize at the same time that the "system" paying him is broken. Hypocritical? Sure. But it's not hard to see that the system is broken and all he is doing is acknowledging it.

How dare Heacock be paid at market (one could argue below market).

The main point he made was that we've lost sight about this being about the kids. For someone that has had plenty of opportunities to leave for much higher profile jobs, he should be able to preach about continuity all day long. You have to be a special kind of jaded person to go poking holes into what he said.

His comments suggest to me that he is not interested in leaving us for a HC position. Maybe I read something into it that wasn't really there, but that's what I came away with.

He didn't want to leave Toledo to come to Ames as well. Matt really had to recruit him hard to get him to come here.

Part of that had to do with him still have kids or a kid in high school.

but I’m sure he’s had opportunities to move on from Ames.

It isn’t anything new for me but I basically only watch Iowa State.

Agree, the kids are slowly becoming AAA level athletes that will move wherever the money is - definitely their right - but between coaches being fired mid season players coming and going I to am finding it difficult to enjoy college sports anymore. Last basketball season was brutal and I rarely watched a game and didn't really miss it all that much. Nothing I can do about it and this is the way it's going but I don't have to like it.

While I'm here, just wanted to let everyone know that this simply isn't true. I know it may feel this way, but the fact is that college football has ALWAYS been replete with athletes moving from school to school, sometimes during the same season. I remember reading a funny story about one player who put up his services for cash and ended up playing for multiple teams during the season, one after the other. Cash and other favors have always been a way for alumni to create winning teams. This has been the case since the late 1800s.

Thus, the NLI and other changes are long overdue. It's time to bring this stuff to the forefront and make it official. If this stuff bothers you now, rest assured it has always been the same. Heck, Sam Willaman, who was Jack Trice's coach at ISU, was later run out of town at Ohio State after a few years for the cardinal sin of winning all of his games, except the one against Michigan.

Quite frankly, all major college football teams (maybe basketball too?) should split from the schools and create an official minor league. They can pay the schools a licensing fee for the rights to logos and imagery.

of all the coaches - maybe even including Campbell - maybe not but its kinda of 1 and 1A at this point for me - I dread having to replace Heacock the most. Either if he leaves or eventually retires.

An official minor league is the absolute final death of college football. It is the XFL, Arena League, CFL with better logos.

In the past an athlete was forced to sit out a year or take a step down. We could literally have players going to 4 different schools and taking the highest bid

Great for the athlete. We better like cheering for the jersey which will soon be covered in advertising.

Cyclone Football presented by Wilson Toyota.

It'd be a decent hire - I'd think they'd have a couple of instate options - either Dykes or the guy at UTSA -Jeff traylor but he'd be a decent choice
