What Goals left for 2021

Now that the Clones dropped their 3rd game of the season, what goals are still realistically attainable for this team?

Beat Iowa - Nope
Go Undefeated in Conf? Nope
New Year’s 6 or CFP game? Nope
Conf Championship? Nope
Win Bowl Game? Yes, but only mid tier bowl.

Serious letdown for a team returning this kind of talent.

Make a decent bowl game is the only goal left, and win that bowl. Alamo Bowl would be the ceiling now.. (that's probable if we win out). Something like Camping World Bowl isn't a total failure but not where we wanted to go pre season. It's been tough.

We can still finish strong but D needs to regain their swagger. Brock has been ice all of October as we expected. TX game worries me b/c they have speed and can put up points. Will need an absolute full team effort and good game to beat TX next weekend b/c their backs are against the wall.

Our d backs were burnt toast today, and I thought that would be a strength of the team this year. Craig McDonald has been improving all year and will be great, but where are Tampa, D Young, and even Anthony Johnson - not enough tips/plays against Doege today. I somewhat shudder thinking about going into OU if I am being completely honest, and that sucks.

We've squarely entered territory where guys like Breece, McDonald, and Kolar who have a real chance at going pro might opt out of the bowl. That's total speculation obviously but it would be hard to fault someone for not wanting to risk injury on another trip to Orlando.

Agreed, this was the most disappointing season in school history as far as I'm concerned. Inexcusable to be 5-3 right now with the talent and experience we had back.

So much this. Did the officiating absolutely botch things today that impacted the game? Hell yes they did. But our defense was utter trash today. WVU had not scored 30 points against anyone other than LIU (an awful FCS team). We made Jarrett Doege look like a top-10 pick in the NFL Draft, and that guy truly does suck.

Lol! None of those guys are sure fire NFL players. They need ISU football right now! All of them are day 2 type players.

I agree this is the realistic ceiling. We could go 8-4 and still end up here as long as OU makes the CFP. Finish 9-4 with a win in Orlando and we will be ranked in the final poll. At least we avoid the embarassment of preseason top 10 to unranked at season end.
 
Going 10-3 or 9-4 would be very solid seasons. So we have 5 big games left!

I realize some fans expected much more, but we are a program that plays a lot of tight games. Win the close ones and the season looks awesome. Lose the close ones and fans ask "What the hell happened"

There may just be a harsh reality that this is kind of who we are, we could easily win 9 games. That's an amazing season in 90% of my 40 years of fandom. It sucks swallowing the fact that this could be this teams ceiling but it looks likely. This one stings but there is still plenty to play for, the future is bright.

Haha, if that happened they should sell 2021 Big 8 Football Champions shirts with the opponents/scores on the back.

edit: would be even funnier with a bowl win over Mizzou/Nebbie/CO.
