Prohm Sighting

I swear Prohm boinked your dog and ran over your wife of half of you on here.

Nice guy and some people have a weird obsession with him but I also think some people don't realize how godawful a 2-21 (0-18) season actually is. It is perhaps the worst season in the history of Iowa State basketball or football, which is an incredible statement considering how bad those programs have been at various times.

For context - the last time Iowa State won zero conference games in basketball was 1937. 2-21 is the rough equivalent of a one-win football season; Iowa State has done that only once since the formation of the Big 12, and that was 24 years ago. There are some really, really bad teams in those years - that accomplished more than Prohm did last season.

And in 1937 we went 3-15, so our win percentage was nearly double last seasons 0.166 vs 0.087.

So the only other season in ISU history with no conference wins was roughly twice as good as what Prohm did.

There are only 3 other seasons in ISU history of 2 wins or less. We went 1-1 in the first ever season we had. And 1923-1924 we went 2-16 and in 1924-1925 we went 2-15.

Prohms is the only season in our history with a win percentage of less than 0.1

It was an awful season yes. But we didn’t have 5 bye games that we usually do every season.

Here's the deal - some of us prefer to separate a lack of success in an endeavor from the human being. Does his failures on the court mean that he is personally a piece of crap? 'Yes', some of you seem to say, because he did not win.

Others here say 'No,' he wanted fiercely to succeed at Iowa State but did not. Despite that failing, he is a quality person, a man of character, and goodwill and charity is what he deserves from Cyclone fans.

IMO, those who judge a man or woman solely on their success or lack of it and ignore the quality of their human character are the losers. Prohm is not a loser, but, certainly, some so-called Cyclone fans epitomize what it is to be a loser.

How to know who these losers are? They point fingers of vitriol at those who step into the arena and fight. When they point, we see who they are, and we know what they are.

First we lose Paul because nobody could bother spelling "Rhoads", now we've chased off poor Steve "Phrom"!

Trotting out the two wins over and over again is comparing apples to oranges because there weren’t 6-8 games against absolute cupcakes in the COVID year. Even the awful squad last year would have won its games against the likes of Mississippi Valley State (or at least more often than not winning them). Give that team a normal schedule and they probably win like eight. Which of course sucks and is still a fireable offense, but the two wins quip is somewhat misleading.
