Let's talk basketball!!

Any win for this team is great. I dont give a crap about style points, lets just keep winning.

Brackins was outright nasty.

Brackins still needs to stop wandering around by the three point line on offense. He'll set a screen then step outside the three point line leaving no one to dump off to, and no one fight for the offensive rebound. We'll never win playing like that.

A win is a win. They seem to be getting complacent in the second half of games and there doesn't appear to be a "warrier". I have also noticed that instead of running some time off the clock during an offensive possession in a game, we are shooting a quick 3, often with no 'Clones under the rim for a rebound. Coaching issue.

I like what the future holds though. This team plays well together and the addition of Gilstrap (Warrier) and Colvin will be nice.

One thing I can't get my head around... You'd think Brackins would be his 'nastiest' when we're hitting the 3s, but it always seems like one or the other. Teams seem to be committing to either shutting down the inside game or getting in our shooters' faces, for the whole game. One would believe that if we were hitting the 3s the opposition would adjust which would open up the inside game... Someone please tell me that this is all a figment of my imagination.

When teams have made it their focus to take away Brackins they have been successful for the most part. Jacksonville State and UNI had no such plan and he has completely dominated. Hopefully we can figure out a way to win with him getting taken away.

Minus Lucca going off for a few minutes in the Drake game.... our outside shooting has not been much of anything great lately. If I was trying to stop us, I would pack the paint with defenders and make us shoot it deep. That pretty much takes away our two best offensive threats (Brackins, DG)

Two things...Defense is still not where it needs to be and we need to start putting teams away instead of letting them hang around.

Thats a bit of an understatement
2 or 3 stops and a couple buckets at the right time and the game is over...instead the opposite happens and it's a game again...Plus side, the left handed dunk by Brackins was the most aggressive move I've seen him make...But why not every trip down the floor?

Who knows, but someone needs to develop a mean streak on this team, with that hit you in the mouth aggresiveness.

Thats the problem KG..numerous times already this season all we needed was a stop or two..we are soft!

CB has to bring his game night in, and night out for us to even have a chance in the XII. On a plus side, it seemed we did a much better job with the entry pass last night, that has to keep improving. Overall, I like this team. With some hard work, and an emphasis on defense and rebounding, I think these guys could surprise some teams in league play. At least thats what I am hoping for!!

There is always an excuse. We need to stop with the excuses and win

Not making excuses, but if you look what happened the team/fans go from believing in what they are doing to doubting it...need to get that turned around again because it makes a huge difference.

Hawaii, play like crap and still should have won...
Drake, leading and blow a big lead...
Iowa, We don't show up...

Personally, I think at the very least we need to be switching up the defense a little...If we have a 10-15 point lead, go to a zone, it forces the opponent to take 25 to 30 seconds of the clock.

Just what Mac talks about . . .

Seems like every criticism (well justified, btw) made in this thread has been addressed by Mac in his post-game remarks. It appears the coaches get it. Just got to keep working on it. And working on it. And working. . . .

Last night during his post-game radio show, Mac laughed when relating a game-time story. At one point, Coach Rutter grabbed Mac's pantleg, Mac said. Rutter told him, do you realize we've got four freshmen on the floor!? Mac, laughing, said, whoa! We got a timeout coming up? (I'm paraphrasing this from memory).

So many newcomers and youngsters on this team, so much to learn, so many good habits to establish, such a work in progress.

Several times last season Mac spoke about the team needing to be much tougher physically and mentally. At the time he said that will come in as the players gain strength (did you all see that DG is up to 185 pounds from 161 pounds?) and experience.

Some here will think that I'm offering excuses for this team. In my mind, I consider the above an explanation of this team.

Just a ton of things for ISU MBB fans to learn about this team when listening to Mac's post-game radio remarks. Agree with Mac or disagree with him, hard to imagine, though, that anyone here doesn't believe that Mac doesn't know the game inside out, making him one smart basketball coach.
