Patterson's .727 winning percentage is second among TCU coaches with more than 20 games under their belt and 11th among active coaches in the Football Bowl Subdivision (formerly called Division I-A).
The Frogs have won four conference titles with Patterson on staff in addition to posting six of the school's 10 10-win seasons. He was TCU's defensive coordinator from 1998-00.

During his 11 years on campus, Patterson has seen TCU make 10 bowl appearances. With a 20-13 victory over Houston in the 2007 Texas Bowl, Patterson has led the Frogs to three straight bowl victories for the first time since the first three bowl games in school history (1936-39).

Why NOT??

TCU is one of the best non-BCS programs in the nation. He makes more money there than he would here. It's a long shot that he comes to ISU.

Who would win?...Ditka or a Hurricane?

"Ditka"

"But what if the Hurricane was named Ditka"

/silence/

The one thing - and maybe the only thing - he would have going here is that the road to a BCS game is "easier" at ISU. Win the conference, get into the BCS. He's not guaranteed that at TCU.

"Easier" is in quotations because I'm not so sure that it actually would be easier.

I don't know anyone who wouldn't be excited about Patterson. But it just doesn't make sense for him.

Here's an idea: Let's start another thread about somebody who we've already discussed ad nauseam.

I think we need a separate thread about every possible candidate out there.

I'll take the Big 12...you take the SEC...someone else get the ACC, PAC10, Big10, etc.

We will then need separate threads for each assistant in each conference.

With this dedication and thread usage - we'll have our basis covered. Pollard, we'll get you yet!

Muuuuahahahaha. Muuuuahahahahahahahahahahaha.

Actually, I'd argue that it's easier to get into a BCS game at TCU. He gets great recruiting classes from the state of Texas, all he has to do is go undefeated in the MWC and finish in the top 12 in the BCS rankings to get into a BCS game. It's obvious that it would be easier to go undefeated at TCU which plays a much easier schedule than here at ISU, where we would have to go at least 9-3 and pull off a miracle upset in the Big 12 title game. If I were Patterson, I would stay. But I'll take him if he wants the job here.

Anyone know where I can find a good Gary Patterson thread? Oh wow, here is one! How about a Phil Fulmer...that one is getting as rare as a Pat Hill thread these days. I hear they are selling Stoops threads at discount rate...everything must go.

Seriously though...Patterson = phenomenal hire...I think about 99% of people on this board would love that.

Got to hand it to M&M...without their banter and "leaks"...this day has been exceptionally slow, and it is starting to show on here.

Why would Patterson come to ISU? BCS...that is why. I'm on the side that it would be slightly more easier to get to a BCS game with the ISU route. If he can recruit, he can do just as well getting good players to come here as he does in Texas. And, who doesn't want to see this guy take over a BCS program?

Isn't Patterson the same guy that turned down $2 million per year to coach Minnesota and that turned down an offer to coach his alma matter, KSU?

He did turn down the Minnesota job...he did not get a chance to turn down KSU...the choice was vetoed by KSU pres...Snyder was in. The dude is looking for a BCS job, I can feel it.

TCU usually plays a decent schedule each year. They went 10-2 I think this year, and what bowl are they playing in?

I'm telling you, these non-bcs schools have it figured out. Only one non-bcs school is going to make it every year, and it's going to be the one that played nobody and won every game, not the one who took on some big names and dropped one or two. Until the system changes this is the way it's going to be, and there will be many undefeated non-bcs teams fighting over one spot. Hopefully "you-know-who" realizes this and will make the jump to a place where you can actually control your own destiny.

The thing is he could stick around a few more years and get a better job at a higher tier BCS school like an Auburn, Notre Dame, or Texas A&M.
