IOWA STATE TO BIG TEN?!? Dave Wannstedt thinks so.

I really want to believe the theory that half the conference secretly has landing spots, but do you all really think that BYU/Cinci/UCF/Houston would jump without serious contractual assurances that the conference lasts beyond 2025?
I don’t buy the secret landing spot theory either. It’s something we all want but I don’t know how anybody could assume that or feel sure of it unless they’re very connected and know something that isn’t public. I wanted to believe Wannstedt knew something but I think from the comments he made in his video it’s pretty clear he was just speculating based on conversations, probably with other media people.

I’m sure there are discussions between schools and other power conferences but I think the Big 12 is going to stay together and expand. Some of the schools including Iowa State may get raided from the Big 12 in the next few years but I don’t think there’s any guarantee. I wouldn’t be surprised if all the schools ended up somewhere else within the next decade or so though.

I think the secret landing place theory and the idea that the expansion stuff is all for show is ”My Pillow guy“ level stuff. At some point you have to believe what your eyes are telling you.

One of the more coherent and thoughtful posts that I've read on the subject.

I don’t think it is guaranteed either. I think it is a strong possibility. For legal reasons, I expect that it will only become known once the OuT exit is figured out.

Not saying there’s a guarantee at this point. Just saying the addition of teams doesn’t necessarily say there won’t be a landing spot for us until a GOR is signed that gives us no out.

This is all exactly right IMO. Slowly but surely the B1GAnon people will come around to this reality, and I think once they see the new Big 12 on the field they will realize it wasn’t as sky-is-falling as they have been yelling about. And like you say, there will be more realignment in the next 15 years given the ACC GOR (not to mention the Pac-12) and when the wheel spins again we will have a shot at moving if we keep winning and watching and buying tickets. In the meantime the Big 12 will remain a relevant league.

In the meantime, certain folks will mark every post that doesn’t support their fantasy as “dumb” as if doing so will change the reality of the situation.

The only way those schools jump is with a long GOR and that isn’t happening.

I'm not claiming to know anything about the timing of finalizing the GoR buyout from OuT vs Big12 expansion and how one would effect the other. To me, a stupid person, they have already gone on record admitting to reaching out to the SEC and not notifying the Big12 conference of their actions, within the timeframe the bylaws require. They do not get to vote on new members, they are not included in those conversation, seems the voting conference members can do whatever they want?

I have read some articles, by journalist that probably know nothing either, that have said that it would be wise for the Big12 to expand ASAP. Then the Big12 can schedule the new members against OuT early and often which would legitimize the newbies as much as possible. Sounds like a great idea to me, I'd love to see OU @ Cincy or UT @ UCF. At that point I think OuT & SEC would rather just pay the buyout and say good riddance.

Maybe what Wannstedt was saying was actually the plan before the Alliance formed. Who knows but if so it would mean the Alliance is one of the worst things to happen to Iowa State football all time.

I am one that doesn't see a thrilling end to this saga for ISU...but "we're in a really good place" is laughable! Relative to the Big 12 they are...but not compared to the SEC or they would not have sought out an alliance with the other leagues.

I think the B1G is in a great place, they print money and they are getting in the playoff regularly. What more could you want? They get perceived as the #2 league when all 3 of their additions in the last 25 years have played as well below average P5 football teams in the B1G. They basically got to grab cash and not lose any prestige as a result. It helps to have a ton of alumni in important positions in sports media who will subconsciously think of their home league as better than it is. My theory is that boosts the B1G to a huge degree. When you turn on the college football playoff show and Herby and Joey Galloway and Dez are the ones talking about the teams, there is gonna be some B1G bias.

You guys are getting Q level here. Too much smoke for this to be all some elaborate scheme to extort TX/OU. It looks like expansion happens and we will see where it goes from there.
I think we should expect invites to go out before OuT are out.

Not all 8 will be going to a P4, that we do know. So they need expansion to happen first, otherwise it gets tougher for it to be the Big 12 poaching the AAC or BYU if KU is on its way to BIG etc
