ill gladly take a rose bowl appearance .... that being said if this is true and he is our man i hope he brings ***** with him to be his OC and hires rhodes as his DC ....

Spot on! One winning season in the last five? His last name is really all he has going for him at this point. Oh, and he's not anywhere near the recruiter Zook is.

I would also rather have Gill, but I'd be okay with Patterson.
Gill is younger, more loyal and would help sell more tickets next year. He also has experience in rebuilding a program from the ashes.
While Patterson has been at TCU for 10 years now, he jumped around a lot more early on in his coaching career. He also took over a TCU team that was 10-1 under Franchione. So he knows how to sustain success, but can he rebuild a program?
I would also rather have Gill, but I'd be okay with Patterson.

Can we just stop this? Every time a potential candidate's name gets mentioned, there are a flood of posts about how that person would be a bad hire. In reality none of us know anything about any of these guys. For example, Jeremy lists Troy Calhoun amongst the possible this morning and there were a bunch of people responding "no way" "please no". Give me a break! I would be willing to bet none of you could have told me anything about him w/o googling. But after spending a couple of minutes on the computer you declare he is not good enough for ISU. Same goes for Pat Hill, Todd Graham, Mike Stoops, Jay Norvell and a host of others.
Early on there were a bunch of "fans" bashing players for possibly talking about transfering before knowing who the new coach would be. Now these same "fans" are spouting junk practically saying they will abandon ship if Stoops, Norvell, Calhoun, Farley, Hill etc. become our new coach.
There is a saying in sports that if you listen to the fans, you'll end up sitting with them. JP is not going to listen to us and rightfully so because we don't know anything! Let's wait and see who our new coach is and support whoever it is.

I would be horribly depressed if Stoops is the guy. Even after 2 terrible seasons I felt Chizik could get us where we need to go, but I think Stoops could only get us to the occasional bowl game like Mac and in a short amount of time, leave the fan base with no hope again...

I don't think this would be a good hire. I thought that Jamie would go after a Offensive coach since our last two had been D- Coordinators and that is his background.
I understand Stoops hasn't had incredible success at Arizona but I don't see why we wouldn't be excited to have him as a coach. It's time to move on from Patterson and Gill, they both would be better hires but it's extremely unlikely they are coming here. And after 8 wins in the past 3 seasons, getting a coach with good recruiting ties in the South and and a great OC (if he comes with) would be great by me.

If the rumors of Saturday night being the first time ISU fans will meet the coach are still true, it can't be Stoops. But, that could have changed obviously.
But, if the Saturday night thing is true - I hope it's one of those things that no one knows who it is. More covert than before hand. Guy is loaded off the plane in a box, put in an SUV and then traveled to Hilton. Just before the game, wheeled onto the court and then pops out.

Then Gene Chizik pops out with his two-year contract extension...it was all a big publicity stunt! Who would hire a coach with a 5-19 record? You guys fell for it...
In General, I would be pleased with this hire. Arizona has shown slow but steady improvement during his time there. I watched them play a couple of times and they are a damn sight better than us right now. We know TG was the first choice and he said no. So if it's Stoops I say bring it on and Go State.
This would be a serious let down if you ask me. Sure he has a better record than ****** but outside of Oregon and USC, its not exactly like the Pac-10 was anything that impressive.
