If ISU has potential to add $20M+ of revenue annually, it would seem adding 2 sports would be pretty easy.
A men's sport like soccer would be easy to add ot even swimming since the facilities already exist. From a nostalgia perspective- baseball would be nice.
From a women's side maybe we see field hockey or rowing.
True…we have the entire MSM built around just that premise. It’s an easy job just making **** up all day and having your “The Blaze” interns write fiction books with your name on it.
I’m not even talking about Deace’s take on politics. I’m talking about a guy that flat out admitted to Iowa State fans that he’s a Wolverine pretending to be a Cyclone fan because he was being paid to be one. Once that happened, I couldn’t care less about his really bad takes on ISU athletics.
I was in college when we went scholarship with women soccer. Was friends with one of the club players. Was talking to her and she told me how she would be on scholarship the next year since they were elevating the club to Varsity level. I guess they figured they at least would have a team and then start recruiting, but that is a slow build.Agree soccer would be easy and cheap, and they had men's swimming and diving not that long ago didn't they?
I think Hockey would be much easier than baseball, honestly, as the facilities are already there in Ames. Plus the existing club team must somehow fund itself, so the operating costs probably wouldn't be a big add for the AD.
From the Alliance press conference:
“We want and need the Big 12 to do well,” Phillips said. “The Big 12 matters in college athletics. The Big 12 matters in Power 5 athletics. I can tell you we’ll be watching closely what occurs here.”
If we take that at face value, their preference would be to see the Big XII reconstitute itself and remain viable. And if that's the case, they're not going to press the Destruct button by taking the two best schools. I think they'll provide some limited help, but we're probably on our own. Of course that could all change tomorrow.
I have to much self respect for this analogy. So if this happens.........do we go from being mad at UT and OU to sending them a thank you card? It could be a situation where we are dumped at a bar by a semi attractive beatch of a woman, but get sympathy from the smoking hot model who has decided to take a guy home that night.
If I recall history correctly at the time Deace became a Cyclone no one was talking Cyclones. He was one of the first and only to attend ISU media days. He also called out Iowa b.s. snobbery when no one else would. Yeah, he was a fake Cyclone but he helped Cyclone athletics by giving them a platform. Hard to hate him for that.
Our current value to the alliance is to stall the SEC master plan. Linking acceptable school to join their conferences in the future is our reward. You should take nothing that is happening in college sports right now at face value. It is almost 100% posturing and positioning. This statement strengthens the Big 12's case against OU, UT, the SEC and ESPN.
And maybe all the people that complain and can't contribute $100/year to the NCC would cease. We need to continue to grow the NCC and get past dealing with the whiners. We absolutely would be receptive. Our problem has always been resources and the need to keep feeding the revenue generator. (football) The pot of money that would come with joining the conference would provide those resources.
He's a ****** person and it has nothing to do with ISU.Not going to argue with what you stated, him being a voice for ISU when ISU was short on them, even if he was being paid to be a fan. The problem is what happened after he stopped being paid - he exposed what he really thought of us, that he didn’t believe a single word of those things he said about us, and he was going back to a “real” fan base (Michigan). Not to mention this was right around the last expansion crisis ISU went through.
This is why I will never understand why people will defend the guy. It’s not that he was paid to be a fan (even when that’s the reasoning I use to bash the guy). If that’s all it was, then fine. But it was the fact that he took a gigantic **** on the doorstep on his way out the door, basically admitting he was lying through his teeth about everything he ever said about ISU, that I find so unforgivable.
You should take nothing that is happening in college sports right now at face value. It is almost 100% posturing and positioning. This statement strengthens the Big 12's case against OU, UT, the SEC and ESPN.
I would never miss that game.I agree with you. The Gophers stadium is never full unless Wisc or Hoks are in town. That stadium only holds 50k and they still don't come close to filling it. ISU would have ZERO problem filling it up.
@Cyclonscin sorry do you know me personally to disagree with my own self worth assessment?I have to much self respect for this analogy.
Next you're going to tell me you didn't like the beach scene with Rocky and Apollo in Rocky 3.And men liked this movie???
I read that as "we're not going to raid the big 12 for its immediate demise. Let's let the situation play out and control what we think college football should look like versus letting the SEC drive the train".From the Alliance press conference:
“We want and need the Big 12 to do well,” Phillips said. “The Big 12 matters in college athletics. The Big 12 matters in Power 5 athletics. I can tell you we’ll be watching closely what occurs here.”

Saw that.Next you're going to tell me you didn't like the beach scene with Rocky and Apollo in Rocky 3.
It had a bit of "The Notebook" effect. Except there were F-14s instead of swans and they hung out at a karaoke bar instead of a nursing home. And men liked this movie???
Well, we like that also. You should take nothing that is happening in college sports right now at face value. It is almost 100% posturing and positioning. This statement strengthens the Big 12's case against OU, UT, the SEC and ESPN.
