Report: OU & Texas reach out to join SEC

its was stated that UT and OU were responsible for half of this 409.2 mil. i dont entirely believe this because it takes 2 teams to play any game and they cant all be OU and UT. the other 8 added the value of extra inventory.

but if that is true then 1/2 of 409.2 is 204.6 and 1/8th of that is 25.575. so at a minimum ISU generates 25.575 mil in revenue. i think the actual number is well north of there, especially with the current state of the football program.

for comparison, 1/14th of 789.9 is 56.4 mil. but OSU, UM, and PSU are also probably responsible for at least 1/3 or more of that.

He was seen jet skiing. That doesn't mean he was jet skiing all weekend. I wouldn't read a darn thing into that.

Ok. I agree, there is only so much you can do before you have to wait for others to act. Additionally, its possible he wanted to get out of Ames to avoid distractions and wanted to be in a more secluded place.

I'd assume that as part of the big 12 conference agreement among schools that there would be some sort of morality clause among the schools. UT and OU working on this deal possibly 6 months in advance of notifying anyone else sure seems like operating in bad faith to me...

I am pretty bad at reading legalese but the way I read the grant of rights, it says any member is supposed to inform the conference if any party comes to them about anything that could persuade the member to leave the conference. Within 12 hours.

They definitely broke that part.

Section 3.2 line C

Oh I agree it'd be more feasible for SEC/ESPN than for B1G/FOX... I just don't think it's realistic for the ACC to let itself be completely destroyed and relegated to G5 status for either of them.

I don't believe for a second that anybody from the Big 10, SEC, or ACC are going anywhere. The Big 10 and SEC schools already make enough money a move wouldn't help them. The ACC GoR is rock solid. The league will not fold even if Clemson and FSU move to the Big 10. That means they'd owe the ACC schools hundreds of millions of dollars, and while rights fees keep going up they aren't going up THAT much.

If anybody is expanding you have Pac 12 teams and Big 12 teams to choose from.

I think your $26M for ISU is probably an absolute worst case scenario for a couple of reasons:
1. As we have seen with viewership numbers, ISU is toward the high side of the "others"
2. While FB is obviously driving the ship, the last couple years notwithstanding, ISUs BB has added more value than most in the conference

ISU is moving in the right direction in terms of value both because of the success in football and value is shifting more toward fanbases that will proactively seek out and pay for content as streaming and a la carte approaches to media are becoming important.

If Fox pushes the BIG to expand, it would take crazy moves to get teams that raise the per team revenue. It would mean either poaching something like Oregon and USC or overcome the ACC GoR to get Clemson and the BIGs white whale, ND. If not ND then Clemson and another ACC team like FSU.

It could just be that the BIG has to expand this year due to Fox, is exploring the options for the big fish, and then ends up having to make a move with a couple teams that aren't going to instantly provide big-time value.

When you are projecting out 5 years, both because of the model of media in the future and its fanbase and the trend of the FB program, ISU looks better than most think. Plus adding KU (and hopefully once again ISU) will lock the conference in as the dominant MBB player. While that's a fraction of the value of football, it's still something.

That said, I think a BIG move would take a long time, just because BIG is going to exhaust some of the big splash moves from the ACC and PAC first, as those would be better for the BIG if they could pull them off. It's just whether or not they can pull it off, and if they can't, are they compelled to expand.

Staples says the Big Ten should take half of the Pac-12 and create four five-team pods. They would take Cal, Stanford, Washington, Oregon, USC and UCLA.

This is pretty bad. So the Big 12 bends over for OU and UT today and save the ship, again, what happens in 2 years when they start shaking their d*ck again and want more? If the Big 12 really can save itself this time, if I were ISU, KU, OSU, et al, I'd start campaigning for a new conference next week. This toxic cycle will never stop.
Yeah I agree 100%. I don't see most of the school agreeing to throw more to Texas and UT just to get facked later. I can guarantee JP is greasing the B1G wheels.

This…is dumb. Sounds like an article thrown out there as a bargaining chip for B1G/FOX negotiations. Again…why would FOX want to lose another half of their inventory?

Anyone a bit surprised that the meeting yesterday only involved Bolwsby, TT and BU... I would think that should have had had representation from all 8. Unless Jamie and the other 5 schools already may have plans w/o UT/OU. *speculation

If representatives from all schools would’ve been there, things are different today. That just seems like a last ditch attempt.
