COLUMN: What happens to Iowa State if the Big 12 implodes?

You're right, but you're also losing less than by doing nothing at all...you only lose prestige if the teams you bring in would be in the bottom half. Guess we'll agree to disagree.

I was speaking of prestige in a relative way, meaning whatever counter move would be made would need to be similar to the one the SEC makes. I'm not saying that the super league is the only way this is headed. But if that is the way it is viewed, the Big 10 will be looking at adding big football brands from outside their current footprint, not ISU.

its a far inferior conference to what we have now for what his goals seem to be. I thought we had a good chance to keep him in our current situation. I doubt he’d turn down Michigan if we are in some ****** division of the pac 12.

one things for sure our second favorite team this year needs to be Michigan.
Smart Big 10 coaches would be concerned that ISU joins the Big 10 and CMC stays at ISU for a long time. RIGHT?
I agree with this post!
But doesn't Michigan wear yellow? Eee gads!

[I know, so did Toledo]

If we get stuck in a reconfigured "Big 12" I would imagine we'll drop all Men's sports besides football and basketball and keep the requisite number of women's sports for Title IX.

That's the one way we could afford to keep our current football staff around, which would make me stay invested almost regardless of new conference.

The problem is our current football staff probably doesn't want to coach in a conference like that.

When I read the A&M athletic director's comments it sounds like this was news to him just like everybody else. He also sounded like he was going to fight it with everything he had. I wouldn't be surprised if this is something Texas leaked to a reporter as leverage to get more concessions from the big 12.
He has to in public. No greater way to fundraise at A&M than being able to make Texas the bad guy all the way up to being the lone vote against them (when they know damn well they're getting in).

Fundraise on the front end, happily cash the bigger checks that having Texas around provides on the back end.
I believe it was the opposite, I believe a Texas A&M source leaked the news (so that the news could spark controversy against Texas and force them to stay in the Big 12 as a last ditch effort by A&M to block it)
Can we just give Texas back to Mexico?

Article out of WVU says the real reason behind this is because OU was tired of the 11:00 kickoffs. It hurt recruiting too much.

I personally think the floor is a new look Pac 16. They have a lot of motivation to add midwestern schools to get into the central time zone. You add Kansas State, ISU, OSU, and Texas Tech you have guaranteed 11:00 am central time zone kickoff/tip off slots every week. They would literally have 12 hours worth of football time slots every weekend.
The distance thing isn't a huge impediment...Ames to Seattle is 1,449 miles. For reference, the longest distance in the SEC is A&M to South Carolina (1,009 miles). Honestly...given air travel, 1,000 or 1,500 miles is pretty much the same. Plus, like you said, the PAC gets the desired midwest start times. I do like the potential Eastern division...

Arizona
Arizona State
Utah
Colorado
ISU
OSU
KSU
TTech

PAC isn't taking the religious schools. KU more likely to the BIG. You could also throw ISU to the BIG and then the PAC pulls in another school.

This is actually a nice division. No powerhouses sure, but plenty of viable programs.
If I'm the PAC, what is the advantage of this again? Footprint in the MIdwest, games starting 1100 CDT and lasting most of day? Does that outweigh gaining 4 mid-level teams (former Big 12) and having to split revenue w them? Would it put them on the + side financially and for relevance?

The Pac-12 is kind of an enigma now with their new commissioner and the fact they haven't found lasting relevance. Their TV struggles are well known. Maybe they take the risk and are more aggressive here. The 4 schools mentioned all have good attendance records and would let the West Coast schools get on TV out east more frequently. Would put them as a bigger part of the national conversation.

B1G Ten should add ISU, KU, KSU and WV. Then you can split into 9 and 9 with Illinois Indiana border splitting the East and West

It isn't , but if one superleague is adding OU and Bevo, and the other is adding ISU and Kansas...you're already losing the football arms race. You aren't getting equal value, and declining prestige overall.
True but who else are you going to add to make up the difference? WV is not an AAU school with terrible academics. None of the ACC schools are leaving after just setting up their conference tv deal last year, the SEC teams about to get rich, none will leave that much money. PAC 12 schools? Why would USC and UCLA want to play half their games 2 or 3 time zones away when they do not have too?
They will chose KU and ISU because we are the only schools willing and able to leave and are AAU schools which meets their criteria to get into the conference. EIU fans be damned

Which is ******* ridiculous. They average just over 1 of those at home per year, while schools like ISU, WVU, and KU get that slot 3-5 times.
