They absolutely would. They imagine themselves and their conference on a whole different level from Iowa State and will do anything to protect that self-image. They think they are in the same sentence as Ohio State and Michigan as the blue bloods of the league and academically superior in every way. They’re wrong on every level, but narcissistic to death about it.

Think of it as ESPN (SEC) vs FOX (Big Ten) and it makes a lot more sense.

Gun to my head, North Carolina and Virginia are #s 15 and 16 for the Big Ten.

So ISU football will just have to take care of business this year. Run the conference table, win the BIG XII championship game. Then beat Clemson and Bama in the playoff to win the National Championship. Wining will take care of everything. F*** OU and UT.

My guess the cards will have already fallen by then, but it will be our last chance to with the Big 12.

Iowa constitution bars any official
of the state from taking actions not in the best interest of Iowa. So no, UI officials are officials of the state and should act in the best interest of the state, just as a state agency official should act in best interest of state even if it is not in best interest of their agency. They may not always do so and the regents are supposed to keep them in check and if not the Governor, but if they publically act in a way detrimental to the state that is grounds for removal. Also, who cares what Iowa fans think. That means nothing.

If UT and OU leave, the remaining Big 12 teams need to form an alliance with the Pac-12, and start looking for a TV partner. They won't get SEC/Big Ten money, but it should be a reasonable payout. Now that Larry Scott is out, one can possibly have a good-faith discussion with the Pac-12.

The Big Ten isn't adding anybody that doesn't increase their payout.

You don't go to 16, just to go to 16. KU & ISU don't come anywhere close to adding to the B1G contract unfortunately. ISU to another P5 always had to be as a part of regional fillers.

ISU better hope the threat of lawsuits are big enough and expensive enough for ESPN to want to place another 6 teams somewhere to dissolve the Big 12. Otherwise the Big 12 is a G5 league. It may get one decent contract to avoid lawsuits but after that look at the current AAC & MWC payouts. Its a depressing future.

Or maybe hope this is some well kept secret by the Big 12 wanting to get networks that will be shut out of CFB content with ESPN owning everything to negotiate.

It is not a g5 league. No g5 team has wvu, osu, ISU, KSU, tcu, Baylor, or even tech level teams and KU is a blue blood basketball. It is better than ACC minus Clemson and better pound for pound than pac 12 has been. It may not generate same revenue but it would be a scrappy conference.

This whole deal is ******* pathetic. No schools will be able to even come close to matching the NIL money the big time programs will be able to offer players. What does this do for the recruiting trickle down when players can make more on the bench at those schools?

The Pac-12 is kind of an enigma now with their new commissioner and the fact they haven't found lasting relevance. Their TV struggles are well known. Maybe they take the risk and are more aggressive here. The 4 schools mentioned all have good attendance records and would let the West Coast schools get on TV out east more frequently. Would put them as a bigger part of the national conversation.

Nobody cares about attendance if you aren't a major financial boost to the Conference. Go look on any of these teams message boards. Listen to the media people who talk to these administrators. They are looking to expand into big markets. Rarely do you even see ISU brought up and when we are other fans just shoot it down.

You need a time machine because you are stuck in 2010 where big markets mattered. Viewership is what matters today, not TV markets. And attendance is a proxy for viewership. ISU has shown they have fans who will watch. ISU is an up and coming program that gets viewers. If you listen to people outside of Iowa you would understand this. But Iowa fans think that ISU is worthless and ISU fans have too many memories of getting kicked in the nuts.
