Report: OU & Texas reach out to join SEC

One thing these large athletic revenue schools need to be careful about is losing the neutral observer fans.

Last year's championship game had really low ratings. I know this evidence is wrought with small sample size issues and is completely anecdotal but there were a lot of people that I spoke with that refused to watch the game because it was OSU and Alabama (the bullies of the NCAA). I'm sure ratings were great among SEC fans but when you marginalize a large part of the Midwest, Mountain state, and West Coast fans; you are losing a large market.

Pete has some great nuggets here (of course, it's all speculation):

- Thinks it's likely to happen ASAP, possibly after this coming year
- ACC had hoped to bring Texas on after GOR + ND, messes with their plans
- A&M may be only "no" in SEC
- Leftovers will have very little interest from other P5 leagues, most likely is a "retooling" of B12 through adding 2-6 schools, 4 seems most likely (Cincy, UCF, USF, BYU, Boise are floated - Houston & SMU less likely as TX schools don't want more competition)

so ******* gross.

I can’t really even predict it at this point. There’s too much we don’t know. It feels like there has to be something going on we don’t know about. It doesn’t make sense for Texas and Oklahoma to pick up and leave just for a prestige badge.

Wow, we are so screwed if any of this is true.

Faster rate meaning in the year 2150 Des Moines may have 2.2 million people in which is what the KC metro has now. The reality is that Iowa itself isn't growing at nearly the rate southern states are.
There you go again. Blanket advertising is passé, on its way out, antiquated, never to be seen again ... soon!

Does Iowa State or any other remaining B12 school help Ohio State make more $$$? I don't know why the Big Ten would rush to grab two more programs if it doesn't increase everyone's piece of the pie.
I think its more about keeping up the the SEC, if the SEC says they are the new control of the Nat championship, then you need to have the same power structure. Staying on the same level of playing field.

Do we increase the income, not sure, But I dont think we hurt it. It would probably be a wash. And in turn they can maintain the same number of teams and same power level with the SEC, for control.

This is going to be how they force their own control of the playoff, get it to 4, 16 team conferences, a conference championship, and those winners go the the final 4. And cut everyone else out of if.

Why did the B1G add Rutgers and Maryland?

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
It turns out that their bean-counters and marketing department has been wrong so far, at least pertaining to Rutgers. The Big 10 brand just isn't as strong of a brand in NYC as they hoped it would be.

How is it on it's way out? Give me an example of how it's on it's way out? Who has got into a major conference just because they have loyal fans? You keep saying it isn't a thing anymore yet I don't see anyone leaving conferences for any other reason than more money and exposure.

You know how it goes here. Texas is struggling now so they have no chance to ever be good in the future. They're a good hire away from being Texas again. Even in the SEC.
This is true for any program. Just look at Cambpell. Every team in college fb is one home run hire away from being great.
