Report: OU & Texas reach out to join SEC

No...ESPN is going to pay TX $150 mil they are still owed for the LHN thru the current SEC tv deal which add alot more $$ to SEC for expanding. It increases the SEC TV deal.
Also, ESPN pays for that $150 mil to TX by not having to send money to the 8 other big 12 schools.
This is over.
It's a legit question. I still think it is far fetched that OK and Texas leave for the SEC. I just don't see why either school would want to leave what they have in the Big 12. They basically get to call the shots where they are at and have a very manageable schedule to get to the playoffs every year. They won't have that in the SEC.
They are definitely below Bama, OU, LSU, and Georgia. Not even close to a playoff team yet. I would put them a tier below Florida and A&M right now. Maybe even Auburn. They're definitely better than the bottom teams but nowhere close to the peak at this point
From a competitive standpoint, being in the Big 12 is their best bet to get in to the playoff. Even if the playoff expands to 8/12 teams or something, they'd still be better off in the Big 12. Their competition would be each other and whoever is the current hot team that went from middle of the pack to being top 3 in the league. Even if the big 12 gets two teams in an expanded playoff, their best bets to be included would be in the big 12 as opposed to being in the SEC.
As others have mentioned, if there is something that is being discussed within high level athletic circles that the public doesn't know about, I don't understand why they would make this move. I don't see how NIL would affect such a decision, because at it's basic level, all it does is prevent the NCAA and university from restricting athletes making money on their own.
But what if the Big 12 completely implodes, which could be their end goal. If the Big 12 completely dissolves dont all those contracts and rules become void.
This is what I have been wondering, people have been saying nothing can happen until 2024, or they lose money, or they have to pay this etc. But if the entire Big 12 ceases to exist, ie the Big 8, SWC, then doesn't that mean those requirements go away too.
I think FOX is perfectly okay having the Big Ten to fall back on. I don't think they're going to lose any sleep. Especially when they cut ESPN and CBS out of the Big Ten deal and have them exclusively in 2025 and beyond.
What is "Texas again"? They have never really on the level of OU, OSU, Alabama, Florida, Notre Dame....
It's been 12 years since they were a contender.

Gee, idk, maybe from watching them 2000-2009? Too young for before that time. It’s so funny that some of you think this past decade means Texas is a average program now.
There's no way the other league members challenge them on it. The tens of millions of dollars it would take to fight that in court would come directly from their bottom line while being what Texas and OU have sitting between the couch cushions.
Honestly, if I'm Jamie I'm putting up a pro Big 12 face in public while reaching out to everybody and anybody in other leagues in private. I'd probably be sitting in Barry Alvarez's living room by now...
Alabama was broken before 2008 as well.

ISU did pretty well late in the 2020 season for TV eyeballs. Our game with Oregon got more viewers than OU vs. FLA

Right, but I think we do stand a pretty fair chance. Better of one than people think IF expansion happens.
I agree on the Big 12 part though.Obviously the conference gets weaker in that scenario which hurts, although I think it’s still stronger than the AAC especially if we swung back an A&M, Missouri.
