COLUMN: What happens to Iowa State if the Big 12 implodes?

this comes down to votes. and besides the emotional brat A&M is, who else is voting 'No' which means they don't want more money.

75% of SEC members need to vote 'Yes' for this to pass. A&M will likely vote no. Maybe Mizzou? Maybe Arkansas. That is 11/14, that passes the 75% threshold meaning one other must say 'No' to more money

What is the % needed inside the Big10?

I think you are taking the opinion of some fans and putting it on the institution. I mean if Big Ten is adding schools Iowa would would rather add someone like ISU than add in someone from the ACC. They already play them every year so from that aspect not a ton would change.

Yes, but from a competitive standpoint, if ISU is in a smaller conference with less money, that means recruiting is much easier for UI. Anything that weakens ISU, helps UI - athletically anyway.

Bingo, it doesn't matter who the UI president or AD is, it's their duty to try to block ISU and I'd expect JP to do the same if roles were reversed. That said, UI alone doesn't decide...

With all due respect, how do you know anything at this point to say such a definitive statement as if it were factual. The landscape is drastically changing before us...everything is on the table at this point.
I called Jamie and asked him.

seriously I have no idea but it seems nuts to me to think the big 10 would let us in.

Bingo. Jamie needs to get the power brokers of the BIG on his side. I wonder if Gene Smith would actually support this since he used to be the AD at Iowa State.

Who does make that call? Regents? President? Barta (lol)?
Of course all those are subject to pressure from politicians, which I think helps ISU at present.

If I'm Mizzou, Arkansas, Mississippi, & Mississippi State (maybe Kentucky/South Carolina/Vandy/Tennessee depending on how the new divisions would line up) I would think long and hard whether the incremental revenue is worth it. Inevitably, there will be programs that become doormats when you bring Super Powers in with deeper resources. Arkansas is already teetering that line.

Take it a step further; I think this means that Bama/Auburn would move to the East. Mizzou to the West.

East: Florida, GA, So Carolina, Tenn, Vandy, Auburn, Alabama, Kentucky

West: LSU, A&M, Texas, OU, Miss St., Old Miss, Mizzou, Arkansas

The SEC East would be an absurd division. Why would Florida/GA, who have an easy path the Championship now go for that? Why in the world would Vandy/Kentucky/Tennesee be ok with a total ground shift in their competitive landscape?

The more I think about it, there might be more dissent in the SEC than we realize.

That’s just flat out not true on every level. Voters from both parties span both fanbases. The actual politicians that matter are Reynolds and Whitver who are both Iowa State people. That’s all aside from the fact that Iowa State not getting into something would be devastating financially for the state.
This is the same legislature that just a few months ago wanted to end tenure at all 3 BOR institutes and also wants to know how faculty are registered to vote. ISU football is not on the top of their mind.

The Big Ten Conference of which Iowa is one of fourteen members. We need allies all over the B1G, hopefully Barry Alvarez is one.

"BIG TEN: KANSAS AND IOWA STATE
The Big Ten is picky. They like their members to be part of the American Association of Universities. Guess which two remaining Big 12 schools are members? Yup. The Big Ten will take the Cyclones for their new-found football rep, and the Jayhawks for their basketball pedigree, though Iowa might put up a fight about allowing the Cyclones in the league."
And I quote. "It could happen. All we can do now is watch."

I'd like to go with this, only have 11 games scheduled, 3 non con, 8 conference ,with a 9th conference game coming through a semifinal round for the pod winners to get to the CCG. Then matchup the other 14 teams by where they finished in their pod standings for their 9th league game the week of the semi's.
It would be:

three non-con

seven conference regular season games

Three other teams in your pod.
All four teams in this year's pod (opposing pod rotates yearly)

week eleven
Semifinals for each pod champion
2v2 3v3 and 4v4 games for everyone else (against pod you didn't play)

week twelve
championship and consolation games
2v2 3v3 and 4v4 games again for everyone else (against the other pod you didn't play)

So we're in great position. But if it falls through and we're left on the outside looking in:

1. We lose recruits
2. We lose Campbell
3. We lose donors

4. By far the biggest thing: how do we pay off all these facilities upgrades??

Do Sankey and Del Conte and the rest of these a@@holes even care about the sport of college football? Not really. They don't see themselves as stewards of something worth preserving and improving. It's all just a bunch of spreadsheets and revenue projections for them to drool over. The NIL stuff has them and their media fanboys and big donors drooling even more. Good for them.

Can't wait to not watch their version of NFL Lite. When ESPN, Texas, OU and everyone else who's excited about this gets what they truly want, the last bit of regional passion and pride will be drained out of this sport. It will just be a bunch of high value "brands" (teams and individuals). I will then laugh my ass off when the NFL swoops in and cannibalizes the best pieces of their professional league in a few years.

It's not just ISU that is going to suffer. These fools are hell bent on leaving a bunch of the P5 behind. If all this plays out on its current trajectory the Iowas, Purdues, Nebraskas, Wisconsins, Michigans and many others are just as screwed as we are. The money guys down South don't care.

Can something resembling college football be rebuilt from the ashes? We shall see.
