Report: OU & Texas reach out to join SEC

The Big Ten has attempted multiple times to add Notre Dame as a full time member and ND is not an AAU member.
ND is in a separate category then every other school, they have great academics, tradition and a national following. The same cannot be said about OU at least from the academics side of it.

Why does all the G5 schools like Houston, the Florida schools, Cincinnati and others want to get into a P5 conference. They are winning and having success currently, why leave? Because its all about the money, without OU and UT the dollars the networks will pay go from 35 million a year per school to 10 million a year. Without that money its hard to keep coaches salaries going up, expanding and updating facilities and the rest of it.

If it was only about winning, teams like Vanderbilt would have left the SEC a long time ago, it not about winning its about the money you get that you hope you can use to get into a position to win.

A $25 - $30 million cut to our athletic budget is Armageddon

Maybe even in ways that don't seem all that obvious on the surface

In a word no! In the upcoming realignment it's all about 'Location Location Location' and middle of the country, middle of a low population state isn't going to cut it.

I'll disagree with you on this, the quality of the product you put on the field counts more than location. We have good viewership as someone pointed upthread our games last yr got pretty solid ratings. We aren't a name brand FB school yet, but we are a up and comer.

What incentive would UGA, Florida , and Bama have to vote yes? Why would any of those schools want to potentially make their path any harder?

I don't understand why anyone from the league that is already head and shoulders above everyone else financially would touch Texas with a ten foot pole. They will bring nothing but drama and will expect special treatment.

If it gets to a point where there is a vote...the two schools being offered will get in! They will not form commissions, perform studies, do the public song and dance for it to be voted down. A vote only happens if it is going to be successful. Now...it may not get to a vote so that could offer us some hope!

I've been in a business conference all week and this is my first post since the news so sorry for being late to the party...but...do we provide the Pac with enough value to join them? Wouldn't they like to be playing games in the central time zone? Perhaps ISU, KU, Tech, oSu?

This f*cking blows, gang. This is some old timey Iowa State sh*t.

To a certain degree I think the Pac 12 needs a central time zone presence in order to hold their value. They have been left in the dust and if the Big 12 dissolves their value only goes down if they don't add some central time zone schools.

We would be done with capital improvements for a long time, would likely need to cut some sports, would lose the entire football staff (can't pay them), would probably want to not pay a long-tenured WBB coach. What Otz is making right now in year 1 would be the high end of what we could plausibly pay the best MBB coach we could get during his best run of seasons. Cannot fully comprehend how much this would change the ISU AD to go from major conference to a mid-major tweener like the American or the shell of the Big 12

Tom Osborne doesn't have time to be on here. He's too busy laughing.
O yes, I shouldn't have named your lust object. Apologies.

By the way, what a great guy. He really went out of his way to help the other teams trapped in the Big 12. When he couldn't get unfair and uneven revenue division and keep other schools under his boot, he ran like a scared little girl into Papa B1G's arms.

Because you are a lot bigger basketball fans.

It will destroy basketball as well if we end up in a glorified American conference. Ultimately the revenue decline will effect are ability to keep good coaches and keep up with facilities. All things that matter to recruits. If you keep the rest of the Big 12 and add Memphis, Houston, etc. You are likely looking at a 3-4 bid league in 2024 or 2025 when the revenue shortfall begins to take effect.

Get an agreement to enter the Pac-16 by August 1, 2021 and just be done with it.

You hate Tom because he didn't want to bend over for Texas? Look where that's gotten Jamie and the rest.

No, I hate Tom because he is a despicable human being. He supported unfair practices in the Big 8 and then Big 12, including uneven revenue division. He obstructed justice when his risky players engaged in criminal acts. But that's clearly behavior you admire. His actions made it more difficult for other teams to stand up to Texas.
