Report: OU & Texas reach out to join SEC

No, some of you have just refused to allow yourselves to think that the SEC grabbing up two football teams means nothing to the other conferences. The other conferences are going to pick and choose from the Big 12 and that means we’re getting chosen.

This. With an elite football program and soon again to be elite basketball program, along with top end facilities and academics, brand recognition and a national fanbase, we will have our choice in a landing spot. Everyone needs to relax.

They make much more geographic sense. Iowa St is better right now in football but they have much better tradition in football and overall have been better in basketball the last 20 or 30 years. The only reason I could remotely see us getting picked over K-State is they want to open up their recruiting further east than Kansas and more into the Midwest than the plains.
Like they would give a **** about the extra 300 miles. It’s 1500 miles from LA to Manhattan and 1800 to Ames. Geography in regards to travel wouldn’t play a single part at all in that decision.

I mean I think you may be going over the top a bit here lol but we’re certainly sitting a more favorable position than we would’ve been 5-10 years back.

You can't charge Big 12 prices for AAC quality.

Well, you could, but you'd have an empty stadium.

I don't think people actually fathom how devastating this would be to ISU. Not just athletics but the institution. Iowa State has spent money in the arms race it is counting on getting in the future. OU and TX control that flow of money. If they jump ship I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if 80% of the TV contract value went away. Instead of $35M distributed by the conference it may be $10M. That would make COVID seem like child's play.

Honestly it would be really bad for the Iowa taxpayer - we’d likely never be able to meet the debt obligations. Can’t exactly repo the student performance center.

Take off your cardinal and gold tinted glasses for a second. We are not an elite football program or an elite basketball program. We never were. We have nice facilities but not top end. We definitely do not have brand recognition or a national fanbase. We have passionate fanbase.

If everything you stated was true, then we would already be in the B1G. No question about it.

This is 100% incorrect. NCAA decides under their by laws what a Power 5 conference is...and if the big 12 has at least 6 teams it is still a conference. SEC/BIG/ACC whoever or CFP committee does not decide which conference earns the status of Power 5...The NCAA does.
Lol. Are we really going to act like the ncaa matters anymore?

Why did they add Rutgers and Maryland then? What do they bring to the conference other than big TV markets? If it was about better rivalries and balance wouldn't Pitt and Syracuse been better schools?
I think even times have changed since 2014 though...streaming services have become super popular over the last few years and especially during the covid year we had...now I agree KU and ISU don't bring a lot to the table in any sense of tv markets but I don't think that's the end all be all of not considering us. We both are AAU members

Explain why this would happen?
Viewership? no.
AAU ? KSU is academically inferior to Iowa State

Not to mention that KSU doesn’t even have a president at this time.

If KSU gets into to the PAC-16 it will be after Oklahoma State, Iowa State, Kansas and Texas Tech are offered.
You think Iowa St traditionally has more viewers than they do?
He is kstate first, ISU second.
I couldn't care less about them anymore, im just stating the obvious that they make much more geographic sense.
