Report: OU & Texas reach out to join SEC

The playoff makes going independent much more realistic for Texas. If Texas stays in big 12 or leaves for another conference, I think OU follows.

It gets interesting if Texas goes independent. I'm not sure what OU does in that situation. I would think they'd stay in the Big 12 but who the hell knows.

True but the academics at Mizzu wanted the Big 10, while the coaches all wanted the SEC. It never came to a head because there was never an invite from the Big 10, and only from the SEC.

Again, without the PAC 12 wanting to poach teams from the Big 12, and the likelihood that Mizzu would be left out and on their own, they would have stayed in the Big 12 hoping for an offer from the Big 10.

This may be true for a certain amount of time...no way those terms are indefinite!
 
I don't click on the Rag. So Texas paper says they inquire about it and DM Rag says they are on the verge. Maybe they are, I haven't read anything on this but the Rag immediately gets gleeful and projects a worst case scenario.

OU is the one that surprises me. They have as clear a path as you could ask for to the playoffs and plenty of money.

Both OU and UT must believe that when it comes time the Big 12 will not get proportionate money in the next TV round to the SEC or Big 10 or if they think the Tier 3 money will go down. The Big 12 is already gets more money per school than the ACC and PAC 12.

Best option for ISU if everything hits the fan and the Big 10 says no, is to try and work with the best and strongest schools from the AAC and the remaining Big 12 put together a conference that has a chance to grow stronger over time. Based on budgets and quality of play you would have to go with Cincinnati, Houston, UCF, and maybe Memphis.

Like a lot of people, I am tired of dealing with this every year. UT has barely won half their Big 12 games in the last 10 years, how do they think they will fare in the SEC?

OU cannot be in a situation where they're not competing against Texas. They drive so much of their recruiting and prestige from their rivalry, they cannot have what happened to the OU Nebraska rivalry and still survive as a college football power.

So if Texas goes, OU has to go too.

If Texas goes independent, they're still likely to build their schedule around OU so in that situation OU could do whatever they wanted as far as conference goes.

Yeah like I said in my other post if that happens the Big 12 is a dying conference. You were the one saying let them leave as if it wasn’t a big deal.
 
Memphis, Houston, Colorado state(Denver area ish), Northern Illinois(Chicago area ish), Cincinnati we have options if they bolt. All pretty big markets. It won’t happen and the big 12 will be all but dead. But it’s something that doesn’t get mentions especially CSU and niu.
 
It doesn't mean they're leaving and in fact I'm in a "I'll believe it when I see it" mind on this, but both Texas and OU have had an opportunity to deny this report and both have chosen to "not address rumors"

That conference wouldn't even be considered a power 5. I'd rather be an independent.

If Texas goes independent, OU and KU to big 10. OU would play Texas in the non conference.
 
Guess Texas decided if they were going to get their ass beat on a regular basis anyway, they'd rather get their ass beat by more marketable SEC names than the likes of ISU, KSU, and KU (lol 2016)

Yeah, I think that's big. On the other hand, we don't know why they're doing this. If it's to get more money from the media, they kind of have to say that
