Report: OU & Texas reach out to join SEC

Trust me. Being in the SEC is more prestigious than being in the Big 12. Ask every A.D. who has left. A&M and Missouri are better off as an athletic department going 7-5 in the SEC than goin 10-3 in the Big 12. If being scared of competition was good for your brand nobody would have ever left. $$$$$ builds facilities. Mizzou is better off financially than they ever have been.
Have you seen the **** show that is Missouri Athletics. The only way this makes even an ounce of sense is if it is a total breakaway for the P5. Otherwise people should frankly just ignore it.

I hope not...but if I HAD to guess I would say that is more likely than ending up in the Big 10!?! Just my guess...trying to be realistic.
You do realize this goes beyond past success historical right? Academics, facilities, current program state, a lot of these play bigger factors.

Im not sure we’d get the boot just “because we’re Iowa State”

Also, what makes you think WVU, TCU and K State are safe from this? Two of those programs were not in power five before about a decade ago.

this is why ive always been a fan of "regions" rather than "conferences"

iowa state
iowa
illinois
wisconsin
minnesota
nebraska
kansas
kansas state
missouri

maybe northwestern, arkansas ?

that would be pretty cool, IMO.
I'd agree with this. I think yes to Northwestern, Arkansas idk maybe but they'd maybe go south. Indiana ? NDSU if they bumped which is doubtful. Iowa State has more to offer than it used to and not just because of better football. But does U of I try to block it? Until anything happens it basically comes down to dream scenarios.

Iowa States ACC accreditation is huge, the B1G puts a huge emphasis on academics. ND isn't joining the B1G, if they join a conference it will be the ACC. As it sits today Kansas would be a no brainer for the B1G and I think Iowa State would be under strong consideration. Who else is the B1G going to grab? I don't see anyone leaving the ACC. If the SEC goes to 16 teams you can bet your sweet a$$ the B1G will follow suit.
Expanding "just because the SEC" is not a reason to expand. This is all about money, and ISU brings less to the table than they would take.

Mizzou sucking at football is because Gary Pinkell left and they replaced him by an awful coach. They were winning in the SEC when he was there. They suck at basketball for the same reason which is they have hired awful coaches. It has very little to do with the SEC. They are in a better place financially than they ever have been. The move to the SEC has been good for the University as a whole.

The grass always looks greener on the other side of the fence, but it often is not. Ask Nebraska, Colorado, and Missouri how they feel about their moves. I think UT and OU would end up feeling similar if they jumped to the SEC.

The entire landscape of college football is likely to change in just a few years anyway since 1) TV contracts with major networks will be expiring, 2) playoffs will be expanding, and 3) NIL will likely have a profound impact in ways we don't even know yet. Jumping to a new conference right when all of this is on the immediate horizon doesn't seem wise to me.

All I can say is I'm happy we picked now for our football program to be nationally relevant, and I'm happy Jaime Pollard is steering the ship. Jaime is usually 3 steps ahead of the crowd when it comes to planning for the future.

They were winning in the SEC when they had a roster full of Texas kids.... Just like nebby, they walked away from that pipeline when they left the Big 12.

B12 TV contracts good till 2025 - correct? Can TX/ OU break before the termination date for a penalty, or are they locked till '25 ?

They are better off money wise than if they stayed in the Big 12, but neither OU or UT has a problem raising money, they want to win championships, which are a lot more difficult in the SEC than it is in the Big 12.

Say UT gets put in the West division, allows them to renew playing aTm, but they also get Alabama, LSU, Auburn every year, and their protected crossover game would have to be OU. How it the UT fan base going to like losing 4 to 5 games on average every year? How much is OU going to enjoy playing Georgia every year, along with UT?

Money is great when you need it, but neither school is hurting for money, like Maryland and Rutgers was to leave the ACC.

I would be willing to wager this has more to do with current negotiations on the next TV contracts, not breaking up revenue sharing.

That's what I'm thinking, but the contracts don't expire for another couple years. Seem a little early to begin the "posturing"

Who gives a f about the facilities of consistently losing teams.

They still recruit Texas kids. Did you forget Texas A&M is in the SEC. You don't think kids from Texas are interested in playing in the SEC?
