Report: OU & Texas reach out to join SEC

Big Ten may not expand at all if this comes to fruition, but if they do.....they make one final call to Notre Dame first. After that, who knows.

ND is already essentially an ACC member (regardless of whatever they want to call themselves in football). Cannot stress enough the significance of academic/research considerations to the Big Ten and to a certain extent the Pac-12.

It's about money and the prestige of saying you are in the SEC. The decision isn't solely based on the easiest path to the college football playoff.

Presitige? Coming in 1st-4th in the SEC is not more prestigious than winning the Big 12 year and and year out. Oklahama's brand is about championships, not divisional titles. Brand is also a lot more important than an extra 10 to 20 million a year.

There was speculation last year that ASU and the U of A were wanting to join the league. I'm with you on that I don't think they were ever going to actually make the jump because they like being able to rub shoulders with the academic institutions of the PAc-12. Especially with ASU determined to be a top notch research institution.
Well for one thing, they would love hosting ISU I'd bet! We would snap up all the thousands of unsold seats they have in their stadiums...

They may make the "jump" if Texas and OU were solid with their Big 12 membership...but if those two are sending out mixed signals...no way would schools like AZ and ASU come to join the "leftovers"! Again, this may be posturing by OU and Texas intending to send a message to the existing members of the Big 12! Pay us more if you want us to stay! It worked last time for them correct?

B10 would go first to South Bend and then Lawrence. Without the Irish, I'm not sure the B10 would want Ku.

Ku would then have to go through the joint university board of regents down here. Not sure how that would play out. But I would guess they would be approved to move without K-State, which is presently looking for a new president.

If this move happens, that move would put the SEC at 16 with Texas and Oklahoma

That means the Big Ten needs two, and then the ACC/B12/P12 have some shuffling depending upon who.

Initial thought:

Big Ten adds Kansas and Virginia
ACC adds Notre Dame, West Virginia, and one more. (That'd be the hope for ISU to still land P4)
Pac 12 adds four Big 12 schools (Tech, Bay, OSU, KSU probably -- maybe ISU over BU but probably not)

But I don't think the Pac 12 is going to allow that to happen without at least a pitch to Tex/Okla because they'd rather have Texas, Tech, Okla, OSU than the four I mentioned above.

The Big 12 will likely make a counter to Tex/Okla to raid at least the Arizona schools, Colorado and Utah, and maybe more from the P12. A P12/B12 lovechild could develop out of that too.

No way in hell that Virginia leaves the ACC for the Big 10, and no way do they ever chose WV. If they wanted WV they would be in the league now, but they choose to take Louisville, Pitt and others. Their academics are horrible, even below TT.

If OU and UT would make the silly choice to leave and go to the SEC, the Big 10 would take KU, and over the objection of EIU ISU. Who else out there is a AAU school that is within the region.

Neither Virginia or N. Carolina will leave what they have in the ACC to join the Big 10.

If the B1G took ISU...can you imagine how much ISU would have to bend over and just accept whatever they did to us! Look at what they did to Nebraska financially when they joined...and Nebraska didn't have to join!

Why? It would not be a decision based upon strength of the football program at this very moment! A lot more data to consider than that for this type of decision.

Iowa States ACC accreditation is huge, the B1G puts a huge emphasis on academics. ND isn't joining the B1G, if they join a conference it will be the ACC. As it sits today Kansas would be a no brainer for the B1G and I think Iowa State would be under strong consideration. Who else is the B1G going to grab? I don't see anyone leaving the ACC. If the SEC goes to 16 teams you can bet your sweet a$$ the B1G will follow suit.

Agree...but if there are only so many seats at the "adult" table...some people get stuck sitting with the kids! We got a great coach...a program being built that is as impressive as any other building project...but that might not matter when it comes to schools looking for the most money! If Iowa State won't bring in revenue...we will be sitting with the kids! It sucks...hope this is all BS or posturing for some reason! But if it really is OU AND Texas working together...that is alarming.
So what, you think we’ll end up having to be stuck playing Colorado State now?

Trust me. Being in the SEC is more prestigious than being in the Big 12. Ask every A.D. who has left. A&M and Missouri are better off as an athletic department going 7-5 in the SEC than goin 10-3 in the Big 12. If being scared of competition was good for your brand nobody would have ever left. $$$$$ builds facilities. Mizzou is better off financially than they ever have been.

Let's just say that OK and Texas bolt. Where do we realistically go? We already know this ******* state legislature won't go to bat for us.

I would be willing to wager this has more to do with current negotiations on the next TV contracts, not breaking up revenue sharing.
