Hunter Deyo commits

Nebraska has had some high ranked classes, but they haven't produced results. One problem has been attrition. Many of the highest ranked recruits have jumped ship - especially ones from far away. Most of the guys they brought in from Florida have not been a good fit.

Another problem is that some of the high ranked guys have not been able to earn regular playing time. They either haven't developed, were never that good, or don't fit the system. They tend to go after star rankings even if many of the stars were awarded based on 7 on 7 competition as well as recruiting service camps. Many of these guys look better in shorts than they do in pads.

Nebraska is actually trying to change their approach to recruiting. Less emphasis on areas like Fla & Ca, more focus on the 500 mile radius. While it might help with retention, I don't see Nebraska being the choice of very many of the top players in the 500 mile radius. They might pick off a few in SDak & Wy, but their
Big 10 logo isn't going to help them in Big XII country. When they try to go east, they have a tough sell now not only against Iowa State, but also Mn, Wisky, IL, and even Ia if they keep finding ways to lose to KF.
Stop.

Max Duggan’s senior year, 2018-2019, Lewis Central dropped back to 3A. Prior to that I think they were the smallest school in 4A, so they would play larger schools. They moved up to 4A in 2014.

Prior to coaching at Lewis Central, Duggan’s father coached at St. Alberts, which was one of the top teams and won state titles in a smaller class, like when Jake Waters was there.

Lewis Central is in 3A now.

Lewis Central’s current coach previously coached at Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln, a bigger school, and had a good record there. He is young and I think one of his sons is Lewis Central’s QB now. His family lived in the Lewis Central school district when he took a job there.

(At one time, I believe, AL and TJ played in the Omaha Metro league; and if I recall correctly, at some point got clobbered all the time by generally larger schools.)

This one came as a huge shock to me. There wasn't much talk about this one, at least not on CF. Was he almost a shoe-in to go to Iowa and then he just ended up picking the good guys instead? This is our highest ranked lineman ever, whether it be offensively or defensively. That's pretty awesome that he's even higher rated than Jake Campos, who was an absolute stud for us. Deyo is going to be a huge key part in keeping that defensively line strong after McDonald and the other guy's leave. Extremely happy about this one.

Now we just need to land Gaines and this will be an awesome class! I think Becht is massively underrated and a possible four star talent.

I'm still gloating over the fact that Hunter Deyo and his family picked us over any other unmentionables. It's just a huge statement as to where the program is currently and where it is headed. I remember Jamie saying that we had a bit of success in the 70's but then came to a crossroads and took the wrong path and didn't capitalize on that success. He stated that this time we aren't going to let that happen again.

It appears to me that we are doing a great job of capitalizing on our recent success and have entered uncharted territory. We can thank everyone that has had a hand in this success, from the ISU presidents, Jamie and Matt and all the way down the football program and the athletic department, the donors, the fans, the students and athletes, etc. It really takes some getting used to. As others have said on here and I echo it, It's a great time to be a Cyclone!!!!

And again; welcome Hunter! You're in for one heck of a great ride!!!

A lot of talk about Deyo in the "In-State football recruiting" thread. This may have been missed by many, as they opt out of that forum.

Now, going on rumors from that thread...

Yes, he was a shoo-in to Iowa. Some even said a silent commit during his visit. He then came back home and people within his circle told him they didn't feel right about the Iowa/Racism "thing." So he backed out of the silent commit and switched to ISU within a couple weeks.

He loves Iowa State's staff. The only thing holding him back was our defensive scheme. He would rather be a DT in a 4-3-4 but we run a 3-3-5.

I will say the student bodies and school atmospheres at ISU/Nebraska are very similar. Both are land grant schools, large percentage of students from rural areas and the social life revolves around the Greek system.

The similarities end there though.
Let's look at a few figures:
Neb Iowa ISU

Multicural studs 10% 18.6% 15.6%

Total Students 25,800 31,200 31,800

Greek Stud/Undergr 19.5% 13.6% 15%

Non State undergr 20% 43% 44%

AAU member no yes yes

I had a hard time finding the multicultural students at Neb - that is my estimate. I used the BOR reports for iowa and ISU.

Other than being land grant schools, I am not sure of your comments on similarity.

You do understand that 10/14 big tens schools are land grant schools and have ag departments?

Also, Iowa State does have a strong greek system. I am not sure what you mean by your comments. Illinois, Wisconson, Minnesota, Indiana, Purdue, OSU and PSU all have strong greek systems. Who cares?

Also, Brian Ferentz is turning off a lot of recruits, even white ones, and Tyler Barnes loves burning bridges.
